Biography

I've been working in the mental health field since 1996. Health, relationships, and trauma were my focus. In 2003 I began to include a specialization in sex therapy. It was important to me to get additional training in this area because sexual issues were becoming a larger part of what my clients were bringing to me. Eventually I became a Certified Sex Therapist through the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists. The training was rigorous and thorough and one of the most important parts of my continuing education as a licensed psychologist. I've worked in Community Mental Health, in a variety of clinics and mental health practices, and for 7 years at an urban university counseling center- all of which served a very diverse population. Currently I am a private practitioner and I work out of my home, which my clients tell me feels very safe and comfortable. My website- drkatherinebettin.com- can provide you with more information and possibly a better sense of who I am as a therapist. Please feel free to call or email to see if it makes sense for us to work together.

Other Information
Working in the field of trauma has always been close to my heart. Sexual trauma became a specialty area because so many of my clients brought these issues to our sessions, which led me to want to get more training in that area. The devastation and disruption that sexual trauma brings to relationships creates such a sense of isolation, shame and aloneness that disconnects people. My focus is self-acceptance, self-love, and reconnection so that relationships with others can feel safe, comfortable, pleasurable and even joyful.
