These groups are designed to provide a supportive space for men who have been sexually abused as children to explore the ways in which this trauma has affected their self-worth, sense of safety, sexuality and relationships with others.
Pre group interview and self assessment questionnaire. Participants in group cannot have sexual/ly offended as an adult.
Our groups are process oriented groups. The agenda is generated by the issues that the group members bring in each week but all work is focused on understand the damage that early childhood sexual abuse and trauma does to oneâ€™ s life and sense of self. We explore all issues from anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, addictions, anger. We only offer group therapy, not individual nor do we do trauma assessments. In 2009 we marked the 15th anniversary of our program.
The group runs in blocks of 15 weeks, with each session being two hours long. Over the course of a year we run approximately 36 sessions x3 groups. We break over the Christmas holiday season and do not run group during the summer.
A 12 session group that helps male survivors of childhood sexual abuse, over the age of 18, focus on trust and personal strengths, understand the effects of childhood sexual abuse and connect with other men who are survivors.
Groups typically run in the winter, spring, and fall. Numbers of group participants ranges from 8-12.
Initial screening with Programs Director and secondary screening with co-facilitators; We ask for a commitment to attending all sessions.
The Orange County Rape Crisis Center is offering a support group for adult, male survivors of sexual assault and abuse starting in February 2014. We will meet weekly on Thursday evenings for 8 sessions beginning February 6. This group is an opportunity to learn, share, and gain support from others with similar experiences of sexual violence.
Please note that screenings with staff and group facilitators are required for participation. Please allow 3-4 weeks for this process prior to the start of group. Phase I is an eight week psycho-educational program focusing on trauma and recovery. Phase II is a longer term process oriented group therapy.
Phase I is a ten-week psycho-educational program focusing on trauma and recovery. Phase II is a ten-week process-oriented program. Clients can renew up to 5 cycles (50 weeks).
The Menâ€™s Project (www.themensproject.ca) provides other group programming on issues of anger management, emotional intelligence, fathering, and separation and divorce. There are six therapists that also provide individual and couple therapy.
Individual and couple counselling are also available.
