Need to phone for a basic screening in order to register. Need to be able to be appropriate in a group setting, safe for other participants, and understand what the program is designed to offer
This is a low-key, no-pressure educational workshop designed to provide information and support to men who have experienced sexual violence, either as children or as adults. There is never any pressure to disclose information, answer questions, or to participate in any way which feels uncomfortable to the attendee. If a participant feels that further assistance is needed after the workshop is over, an appointment to meet with an crime victims advocate individually can be made.

We require potential participants to speak with Deb Foley before coming to the first group. This can be in-person or over the phone. Because the group is so short, we do ask that participants try to attend as many sessions as possible. Participants are not required to be in therapy. We do ask that participants be sober during group sessions. Also, we emphasize that this a peer support group, not a therapy group.
We do a combination of education, activities, and general discussion. We start each group with a check-in and end with a wrap up so that it is a contained setting. During the session the facilitators will provide information and usually initiate an appropriate activity, but that might be set aside if there is an urgent topic affecting a group member which needs to be discussed. Discussion is fairly free-flow, and participants are encouraged to speak directly to each other, rather than through the facilitators. Participation in activities and discussion is voluntary. Participants are allowed to disclose details of the crimes, provided they are not triggering other participants by doing so. However, no-one is ever required to disclose anything if they do not wish to.

We also will be maintaining an on-going waiting list for future groups if someone isn’t able to come to this group.
