Effectively Engaging Male Survivors of Sexual Abuse

Presented from the point of view of a survivor himself, this presentation touches on the essential points to be mindful of when working with a male survivor of sexual abuse and provides powerful insights into how to better help male survivor populations engage in the work of healing.

BPT: Believe, Stay Present, “Thank You” – A trauma informed response to disclosures of abuse.

This presentation will review some important concepts about trauma, and the potential impact of trauma on the brains, bodies, and behaviors of survivors of abuse and trauma. Armed with these concepts we will review a simple model that will give professionals from any field and lay persons the concepts required to provide a compassionate and empowering response to any disclosure of trauma.

Ten Things You Should Know About Male Survivors Of Sexual Abuse

This presentation gives an overview of the unique challenges male survivors of sexual violence face as described from the perspective of the survivor himself. It breaks down the subject into 10 easily graspable concepts that help to both illuminate the specific challenges and pressures faced by male survivors.

Ten Things Partners of Male Survivors Should Know

Created with the input of male survivors, intimate partners, and other family members, the Ten Things for Partners will help foster better communication and understanding between survivors and their loved ones.

Dare to Dream – A Community Awareness Event

These events provide male survivors and their supporters with a safe and comfortable environment to join others in lifting the veil of secrecy and shame from sexual abuse. The program usually features a screening of a documentary film and is followed by a facilitated panel discussion including male survivors and mental health professionals. By bringing the issue of sexual abuse out from the shadows, we hope to create an opening for increased awareness, and to show other survivors that healing is truly possible.

Feedback from recent MaleSurvivor Trainings:

“I liked the fact that the workshop was focused on methods and was very intercultural. For instance the do’s and dont’s of working with a victim. In addition, the workshop gave a very dignified and respectful overview of male survivors based on good facts and stats.”

“I don’t know what my favourite or least favourite part of the workshop was. However, I would like to say that I came away more enlightened about the topic of male survivors. I work with males who are on parole and I didn’t make the connection that many of them are likely survivors, some who haven’t had the opportunity to begin addressing this issue.”

If you would like to bring any of these trainings, our Dare to Dream awareness program, or a Weekend of Recovery to your community, please let us know!

Our trainings can be custom tailored to fit the needs of any audience, and we are happy to discuss creating specific content for your group.

Rates for MaleSurvivor trainings are flexible, affordable, and MaleSurvivor speakers are available to travel anywhere.
