Bill Burmester, M.A., M.F.T. has been a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in private practice in Berkeley, California since 1994, with training and experience in the treatment of sexual abuse and other relational trauma. He has worked with child, adolescent, and adult survivors of sexual abuse, adolescent and adult perpetrators, and abusive family systems. He facilitates a Group for Men Healing from Sexual Abuse in conjunction with The Men’s Center for Counseling and Psychotherapy in Berkeley, Ca, and treats issues of trauma, Dissociative Disorders, and PTSD in work with both men and women. He also works with couples. Approaches include EMDR, EFT, Mindfulness, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, and Relational Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy. Bill has provided training in therapy with male abuse survivors locally and for the Am. Psychiatric Assoc in 2004 and 2005, has supervised interns as Adjunct Clinical Faculty at the Wright Institute in Berkeley, and has been on the Weekends of Recovery staff with MaleSurvivor since 2001. From an abiding interest in literature and film, he has also presented on the representation of the sexual abuse of boys and men in film at the 2001 and 2007 MaleSurvivor Conferences in NYC.

As part of his professional work beyond individual and couples therapy, Bill periodically offers both a 12-week initial therapy group and an on-going support group for men healing from sexual abuse.
