Tonight I attended the opening of the National Conference for SNAP (Survivor Network for those Abused by Priests). It was a welcoming open to the weekend conference with moments of emotions. The speakers were inspirational and compassionate and did not diminish the pain and hurt victims experience.

One speaker said something that really hit me

Survivors (victims) (and those that support them) fear the darkness
The Church (and those that do not accept and support the victim) fear the light.

To me the light is the truth and in place of the Church another institution or individual can be substituted. The survivor fears the darkness of the abuse and all the effects the abuse brings.

I need to continue to fear the darkness but I need to accept and live the light.
