I read this yesterday, but was too emotional to respond.

Quote:
"Real isn't how you are made," said the Skin Horse. "It's a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real."

"Does it hurt?" asked the Rabbit.

"Sometimes," said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. "When you are Real you don't mind being hurt."

once you are Real you can't become unreal again. It lasts for always.

I was made real once. Someone loved me for a long, long time, not just to play with, by REALLY loved me. I became real. Yes, it hurt, but it was worth it.

She is no longer here, but I am still real, and learning day by day to become more so. Sometimes it still hurts like hell, but I'd take the pain over going back to being just a toy, any day.

Thank you so much for this post. Thank you for reminding me of this story, and giving it a whole new meaning...
