In areas of sexual abuse, our experience itself gets confined. How else could we have gone through it? It seems to me that this could result in a lifetime of creating rules, some of which may have no logic because they are based on a fear that was justified and yet originating from a situation that was beyond our control.
Removing restrictions is one of those things that philosophy seems to have toyed with from time to time. When it comes to trauma, however, restrictions are coping mechanisms that may be there for the right reasons, until we are able to truly face what happened.
However naked we are, I think we need a helping hand, to walk through the pain.
Thanks for your responses here. It has helped me maintain a much-needed perspective.
