Langhorne Slim & The Law "Changes"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-K0MeOMt1k

Things could be stranger
but I don't know how
I'm going through changes now

I could spend a lifetime trying to figure it out
I'm going through changes now

That have just begun
Under a purple sun

There's many reasons we are
what we've become

I'm going through changes
ripping out pages
I'm going through changes now

I knew it once
but I forgot
I'm going through changes now

We want everything but
what we've got
I'm going through changes now

Maybe it's too soon
Under a purple moon
But I'd ride off with you
In a big balloon

I'm going through changes
Rattling cages
I'm going through changes now

Things could be different
but I don't know how
I'm going through changes
through all of the strangeness
I'm going through changes now

Hi jj778, hi guys,

I really enjoy this topic, and listening my way through the songs that mean things to people and reading the comments helps me work things out.

I listened to this song when it was new. I admire the way it talks about pain and wanting attention and fearing to die. I recognize now that it is also a sort of lovesick boy song, at the time I heard it only as testimony from a place I feared I might go. Not from loss of love in my case but from being pushed to the ledge by years of abuse. Goes without saying, I guess. Who here had time to worry about young love when we were being abused?

I wish I could have said something then, the way these guys could sing about their pain. It looked so huge, my fear and pain, it filled my world and I could not see outside of it, I could not describe it or say what was wrong, I just lived it thinking it to be life.

The singer has such a wonderful, strained voice, his delivery feels desperate as do the guitars (bass?) in the background.

It's funny that I've never seen the video till today, and I don't like the way it objectifies male bodies.

Thanks a lot.

Geoff

Philip LaRue - Window

*Triggers -- sex trafficking*

She makes wings out of cardboard and string
She looks outside her window and makes believe
She hears a knock on the door and she lays down
"Is this all I'm good for?" she says, and lays down

The petal's been plucked and the coloring is gone
They count the money and they call in the next one
She prays to God when it rains: "Is it Your tears for me?"
"And if so, will it stop raining?"
But it don't stop (don't break my heart)

But he's breathing down her neck
He's breathing down her neck
She tries to forget
She prays to forget
That she's 8 years old
She says, "I'll just do what I'm told"
She cries, "I just do what, I just do what I'm told"
"I just do what I'm told"

Oh, and she cries, and she says
"At least I have my window, at least I have my window"
She says, "At least I have my window, at least I have my window"
She says, "At least I have my window, at least I have my window"
She says, "At least I have my window, at least I have my window"
She says
