Twenty charged with molesting children
A group of parents who sexually abused their own children and sent pornographic pictures of them over the Internet have been arrested in the US and Europe.
Forty-five children, including 37 in the United States who ranged in age from 2 to 14, were victims and have been removed from the care of those indicted, Customs officials said.
Eighty percent of the children were molested by one of their own parents, they said.
Most of them are in the custody of another parent or relative, or foster care.
US customs officials said two people in the UK were arrested and charged in connection with the ring, although British authorities could not confirm this.
"I've rarely seen crimes as despicable and repugnant," said Customs Commissioner Robert C. Bonner.
Ten US citizens have been charged since January, including nine named in an
indictment unsealed Friday in Fresno, California. One has already pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 20 years in prison, Mr Bonner said. The 10th American committed suicide after his arrest.
Six residents of Denmark, Switzerland and the Netherlands were also indicted in Fresno and the Justice Department is seeking their extradition to the US. Four others were charged in Europe as part of the joint investigation with the Danish National Police that reached Belgium, Germany, England, Switzerland and the Netherlands.
More arrests are expected. Authorities are still trying to identify other children in some of the explicit pictures.
The indictment alleges members of the ring, referring to themselves as "the club," traded messages across the Internet requesting photographs of specific sexual poses. In one instance, a man is alleged to have swapped his own children with another pedophile to be abused.

Lloydy,

What can I say. The story really upsets me.

I read about it in the paper today and had to stop reading the article. From parents leaving their children in cars with the windows rolled to this. What is wrong with these parents? Prents are supposed to protect their children.

I used to volunteer at a place called St. Vincent's. It was an orphanage for children who were taken from their parents by the court because the children were sexualy or physically abused by their parents. It amazed me how most of the children wanted to be with their mommy and daddy. God bless them.

It does make you wonder sometimes...
Over here the law can ban people for life from keeping animals after mistreating them, and it often happens.
So when we see parents ranging from terminally stupid to sadistic abusers it's no wonder people want the death penalty bringing back ( although I don't )

On one of the off-road 4x4 sites I use someone said something to the effect of-
"take all the warning labels of everything and let evolution take it's course !"
Well that would get rid of the stupid.
The rest will always be with us I'm afraid.

The harm of a child by anyone is hard for me to think about. I get sad and in this case had tears in my eyes,
The betrayal of a child by his/her own parents is such an abomination. I really wonder if we do not need to have SAFE orphanages (if such can exist) for children who are in danger. Surely there are enough of us who know the harm and have a special love of children that we could do something. Giving children to relatives seems not a solution to me--too much abuse seems to run in families. Let's keep speaking out. Sooner or later someone will begin to understand that our children have to be safe and loved into a healthy adulthood.
As Frederick Douglas once said--"It is better to build strong boys than to repair broken men."

What still bugs me is how do the perps and abusers make initial contact with each other ?
Especially amongst family.

It's almost certainly the most loathed crime in the world, borders don't matter here. So can anyone imagine the giant leap these people make to actually tell someone they are an abuser ?
How in hells name do you persuade, or suggest to the other parent that you want to have sex with your child ?

We've met abusers of all kinds between us, we know some ofwhat goes on in their minds, but I bet we'll never know it all.
It's just too difficult for decent people to comprehend, it certainly is for me.

i believe in capital punishment for cetain offenses, but i am not sure i can say molesting children chould be one of them. How are you going to explain to a little kid that thier father or mother is going to die, because of the thing they did to them? The child already blames themself for the abuse, now they believe that they killed thier parents too.

But rape of a child is no different than any other form of rape, and i believe rape is worse than murder. And murder is a capital offense. In an ideal world, i would say yes, rape is a capital offense, and sexual assault is a crime that should be punished by, at minimum 25 years in prison, and thats with good behavior. But what are you going to tell the kid? There is no easy way out of it. Some crimes are so severe that the only law left is that of nature. Punishing crime can never prevent it entirely, only detriment it, and create a sense of justice. But could i kill my mother? Again, morals and ethics clash, and my ethics will always take precedence.

two of those arrested were serving police officers.
The child porn on their computers was supposedly safely hidden behind some kind of shielding program, it didn't work.

Abuse knows no boundaries, but I guess we already knew that....

I think one of the points to be gleaned from all this is the fact that the sexual abuse of children is much more widespread than anyone thought, or thinks. It's almost like a parallel universe of sorts. If you are a pedophile I think it must be sort of difficult at first to find others like yourself, but when you're in they probably help each other out. Pretty sick, huh?
