April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month in the U.S.A.

A series of articles is being posted in the local newspaper, particularly about a local school event, "Breaking the Chain of Abuse." The first article in the series can be found at

the above links will lead to following stories in the series. Yesterday was the day of the actual event, where representative students from all 16 area schools gathered at the Board of Education office to kick off a month-long celebration of Child Abuse Prevention Month.

A proclamation was read which in part urged citizens "to seek the child abuse prevention resources available when they are needed," and to "make child abuse prevention a top priority."

The ceremony concluded with the children standing together holding a paper chain they had made. The children broke the chain to "signal the beginning of Child Abuse Prevention Month and the end of child abuse."

This month gives us an especially good opportunity
to be advocates for ourselves and other survivors!
Not just in the U.S.A. but around the world. Not just in April but all year.
