An 18-year-old woman was charged yesterday with endangering the welfare of a child, one day after a newborn was found inside a trash can outside an apartment complex, the police said. The boy was found by a man throwing away trash at the Sandpiper Apartment Complex, said Jeffrey S. Blitz, the Atlantic County prosecutor. The woman, Simone Walker, a resident of the complex, was held yesterday in $100,000 bail, said Mr. Blitz, who would not describe the relationship between her and the child. Emergency workers took the boy, who the police said was only a few hours old, to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Galloway, where he was listed in critical condition yesterday.
