From Alastair, British social worker and male survivor activist based in Cambodia in need for infos. Here is his request:

It looks increasingly likely that i will be getting involved in a research
project funded by World Vision, essentially looking at the needs of boys who
have been abused (or are in what are referred to as sexually exploitative
situations ie. those who may be selling sex as well) and also current
provisions, practice, training etc.
It is early days and we are at the talking stage but I am quite excited by
the prospect. (i knew that there was a reason for me to be here, other than
what I already do). It would be good for me both professionally and
personally but could hopefully lead to lots of exciting things happening
here.

Part of the research will be taking a look at comparable projects (if there
are any) caring specifically for the need of boys. There is nothing here,
hardly a flicker of recognition of the issue amongst most people (and some
Cambodian child rearing practices include many behaviors, categorised as
abusive in most cultures).
There maybe projects in Thailand or Vietnam that i will be visiting. It
will also be useful to look at models of practice in other countries too?
So, if any of you are aware of care projects that provide for the needs of
boys (residential, office based, street/outreach work etc) in your
countries, i would be very grateful.
I have a few leads but anything would be very useful. thanks in advance for
that.

Please pm me (Caetel) and I will forward his e-mail address.

Caro,

The systems I know about are those operating in Western Europe and the USA, where the services available reflect the norms, laws, social expectations and state of technological development of Western society. I rather doubt that much of this would be relevant to Alastair's situation.

I bet a good model he could look at would be that of India, where many of the same standards and issues would prevail. My own view would be that he needs to be checking out cultures that share similar ideas on such issues as sexuality, honor and the authority of the family as opposed to that of the state.

Much love,
Larry
