i hope this is where i am supposed to post this...

lately i have been watching the national news a lot because of the war going on between lebanon and isreal. it really seems like the stuff going on there is really bad...and i guess it makes me sad to watch it.

tonight i was listening to the band system of a down, who are very political, and one particular song hit me because it really seems to express what it feels like to be a person caught in the middle of a war. The song is called 'tentative' and to get the full affect, it really should be listened to...because the two singer's voices are really awesome. but the lyrics are cool too...i put them below.

---------------------------

Tentative by:system of a down

Superstition taking all of us for a ride
Mimes overtaken by the signs of the Right
The bombs are falling overhead with no sight
While you are talking all detached, so tell us

Where you're going - to the bottom?
Do you hear us we are rotting?
We're going down in a spiral to the ground
No one, no one's gonna save us now!

Ceremonies have killed religions for they provide
The masked comforts to delusionals, they're all in fright
The true believer's head was bathed in sunlight
While you are walking all detached, so tell us

Where you're going - to the bottom?
Do you hear us we are rotting?
We're going down in a spiral to the ground
No one, no one's gonna save us now, not even god!
No one saved us, no one's gonna save us

Where do you expect us to go when the bombs fall?
Where do you expect us to go when the bombs fall?
Where do you expect them to go when the bombs fall?
Where do you expect us to go when the bombs fall?

Superstition taking all of us for a ride
Mimes overtaken by the signs of the Right
The bombs are falling over our head with no sight
While you are talking all detached, detached, detached, detached, detached,
We're going down in a spiral to the ground
No one, no one's gonna save us now! (not even god!)
No one saved us, no one saved us
No one saved us, no one's gonna save us now
Where do you expect us to go when the bombs fall?

Kurt,

thanks for posting that, and I guess it might be in the right forum.
It makes my sick to think of all those innocent ppl being killed.

There are many desperate cries for help going unheard through senseless battles for power.
I hope that man will find eventually that war achieves nothing. It never did, and never will,

Kurt,

I worked as a journalist during the civil war in Lebanon in the 1970s, and the song you quote here brings back all kinds of memories for me. Especially powerful is this one:

Quote:
Where do you expect us to go when the bombs fall?
That's exactly the case now. There is nowhere for these villagers to go as the violence rages all around them.

Much love,
Larry

Wars achieve wealth for the madmen who start them. Just look at George Bush and his billionaire buddies. As long as evil men can get rich from it, there will be war.

Makes me sick to think that Bush is sending the bombs to them from Scotland.
Ms Rice has evil right across her face.

Their money and lust for power has earned them a one-way ticket to HELL

Kuurt, or anyone else, if you're bored enough, and want to listen to a really cool talk show where the host discusses nothing but how governments go to war, check this out. These are two 40 minute segments, and I absolutely loved this show, esapecially towards the end of the first segment, and the beginning of the second. If any of you guys DO listen to this I would love to hear what you have to say about his opinions. His name was Harry Browne, recently deceased.

This guy was so cool. Too bad he died.

Adam,

You're so right and it's so sad. I'm not a religious person, but I know several who are. Some are just ridiculous and use their religious beliefs like a shield for them to do and say whatever they want while feeling nothing for the people they hurt. Others, and these are the people I admire, find peace and comfort in their religion. They truly practice the good that is taught to them. If there were more of these latter people, the world would be so much better for it.

One of my favorite movies is Dogma, staring Ben Afleck, Matt Damon and Chris Rock among others. It's a comedy with a heavy religious theme. Chris Rock plays Rufus who was a good friend to Jesus, back in the day; I believe they refer to him as the profit in the movie. Anyway, a main theme that Rufus tries to get across to Bethany, one of the main characters and a fallen catholic, is that God doesn't like beliefs, he likes ideas because beliefs only cause trouble since people get so wrapped up in them that they lose sight of what God really is. God shows up at the end of the movie and she's a woman! I won't say who it is in case someone here wants to see it - it's a kicker of a surprise that had me laughing my butt off.

To say that this movie was not well received in the catholic community is an understatement, but I loved it, not only for its comedy, but the truths that it told and the "ideas" that all people should embrace.

ROCK ON.........Trish
