I can think of some outrageous episodes in the USA as well, but it does seem to me that in the UK sexual abuse of children, or at least of boys, is not taken as seriously.
Are there stats on this? For example, do we know what the average sentence is for such a crime in the USA as opposed to the UK? Maybe this figure would help when you talk to politicians.
If there is a big difference it's quite important. The USA isn't one legal jurisdiction, but 50 where this is concerned, since child abuse is a state and not a federal crime.
Just a thought.
