http://www.cnn.com/2005/LAW/12/05/scout.official/index.html CNN) -- A former official with the Boy Scouts of America was sentenced to eight years in prison Monday for receiving and distributing child pornography, according to the U.S. attorney's office in Dallas, Texas.
..
According to the plea, the investigation began in Germany in November 2003 when authorities there executed a search warrant on a man suspected of trafficking in child pornography over the Internet.
As part of that investigation, authorities found Smith had received images of child pornography from the man in Germany.
Good news, for once. There's a few stories like this coming out lately. I am unable to provide a link, but another man in my local area was recently put in jail; he dropped his cell phone in a hardware store parking lot, and when workers found it and tried to look up his information on it, they found out that a couple of child porn images had been downloaded onto it. Onto a phone! Unbelievable. These people are obsessed.
People like the above-mentioned scout official are put in a position of trust and authority over younger people. As a scout leader, he would've had to take a child safety/protection course. I know what's in the course; I was an assistant scoutmaster for a short while in the scout troop I'd belonged to. But this guy took - and was certified! - in a course which teaches leaders to protect kids from people like HIM. What do people like that THINK ABOUT when they're taking such a course, answering the questions, and such?
