Hi all I dont get here as much as I would like, been busy. But today I watched the Oprah Show she was talking about victumes of sexual abuse. I feel she really droped the ball on this one. NOT ONCE SHE SAY ANYTHING ABOUT BOYS it was all girls. Like boys are not being sexualy abused. Well I sent her an email telling how disapointed I was in her one sided report. If you would like to send her one please go to http://www.ohrah.com click on the link for show idea's and then I just click the one for show idea. She could have at least said that 1 in 6 are also abused..but nothing.

Well thank you for letting me vent. Sorry I dont get here to often.

Thank you James. The actual link is http://www.oprah.com.

It is a shame she did not even mention abuse of boys. I will be sending a comment also.

I posted the following tonight:

Males are victims, too
Posted by: kensinger7
Posted on: 12/16/2004 at 9:10pm (846 of 846)

Research says that 1 in 3 females and 1 in 7 ir 8 boys are sexually abused by the time they are 18. Unfortunately, the media does not give the problem of male victimization the same attention as females.
There is a website devoted to male survivors and their loved ones at http://www.malesurvivor.org. More info on helping male survivors can be found there. Also, there is a discussion forum (bulletin board) for discussing issues of victimization and recovery.

Twice in less than three months for Oprah. Same thing happened on the October 1st show. \:\(

Time to write her again.

Edit- that was a replay of the one on October 1st.

I sent an email as well. Maybe if mainstream media woke up about this problem. It would finally go away. I personally think that anybody who rapes or molests people should be executed.

Who would be willing to go on OPRAH?

I'm surprised that we haven't been represented on that show, that we haven't been asked.

I'm sure that we could get some of our professionals to appear but who would be willing to appear from our ranks?

I think that Roland has done interviews and maybe a local interview show or two, but I don't think that he's done anything on a national scale, I'll have to ask him.

What a show that would be if we could get 20 or 30 of us to appear on that show...I believe it would have incredible impact. Any volunteers?
Just a thought.

I think it's a great idea. Expecily if we could not only get member's willing to tell there story, but to get some of the pro's we have here as well. We are lucky enough to have a list of who's who on this issue. So if it could/would happen count me in.

I would be willing. I know suffering, but maybe by speaking out I could help others. I would let my shame be known.

I would be willing to appear on the show. I watched the show both times and was disappointed that no mention was made of male victims, but it was also important for me to hear much of what was said.

I will post another message on Oprah's site. I did it the first time too, but I was too emotionally overwrought to make much sense.

Yeah, I watched it too. I thought that maybe she would say something about males as well...but nothing. I started to get some anxiety just thinking about it. It made me really sad. Maybe we could get the MS poem book finished and then all go on the show and present it to her.

I would be willing. In fact, I have e-mailed her site, suggesting us men be represented.

OK from my count I see 6 of us that have said so far we would be willing to go and tell our story's. \:D

David,
So far you are the only member of the BoD who has replyed in fact this was your idea (ty btw). Do you know if any of the others would be willing to go as well?

Please go here: http://www.oprah.com/tows/intheworks/tows_works_main.jhtml;jsessionid=53EAJOYUAPYCHLARAYHB3KQ

And tell them about us, that we are willing to tell our stories. Give them the link to the home page and ask them to read for themselves what this place does.

Oh Ken,
They delete any post made on there message boards that has links in them. They have to many to police each link to make sure it's safe. So if you would please email your post to them using the link above. Thanks

Thank's to all who have replied. I felt sick to my stomic when I seen her show and she didnt say one word about the boys out there. Just keep telling anyone who will liston. Like Billy Gilman said "One Voice was Heard"

I emailed the show a while back when they were looking for people who were sexually abused.

I sent my story but I never heard back. I guess sexually abused men don't make good reality TV.

I would do it, cause remember, when you use the word cannibal in real conversation, people listen to what you say next.

Loc: Took my ball and went home.
I just sent the following email and would consider appearing on the show:

I am a 42 year old male survivor of childhood sexual abuse. I just learned from http://www.malesurvivor.org that you recently did a show, or shows, about childhood sexual abuse but focused only on females.

Sexual abuse or exploitation of children, regardless of gender, is horrific, both while it's happening and for the duration of the victim's life. Mainstream media does not do enough to address the issue as a whole, but male victims are virtually ignored. While I'm sure this is not deliberate (you too probably need to be educated about the effects that sexual abuse has on male victims) but you are perpetuating the myths and stigmas attached to the sexual victimization of boys. Please take a much needed stand and use your immeasurable influence to bring this issue to its true light. The world needs to be kept constantly aware of the scourge of childhood sexual abuse, but boys should no longer be ignored, by doing so, you are validating the shame already so deeply ingrained in our broken souls. Thank you for your time and consideration.

I would ask that you not stop with one email about this. They have to get 1000's of emails a day just because of who she is. Please send more than one. Maybe if we do that it will help grab someones' eye.

Thanks again to everyone who have responded to this.

James,

I promise you that if we get a date to do Oprah, I'll bring as many of the board that they let us.
We've got an incredible cadre of men, I know that they are silently cheering this endeavor.

Well I have included the link to the bio's for the Board. If we could just get them to call one of us and let us explain just what this site means and does for men all over the world I truely believe they would do a show.

So everyone keep emailing. Everyday if you have too. One way or another as group we can get someone to read them and see that we have all emailed about the same thing.

Anyone hear from them yet? I am going to email them again...and again...and again. This board has helped me so much I cannot even begin to explain how much it means to me.

I have left a message too, I hope the French influence will help.
Love and hugs to all, I am proud of all your efforts. You are truly my brothers.
Caroline

Dearest Oprah
I am a French incest survivor (abused by my father from 8 months until 11). I am also an art therapy student commiting into helping sexual abuse survivors to overcome the tragic consequences of such a traumatic experience.I have worked with Mike Lew and I feel for the men who have been abused because they are so lonely when dealing with the abuse. The man I love is also a survivor (a wonderful French man who has been abused by his mother). But I am so powerless in helping him go through so much pain in his life. I know the guys from http://www.malesurvivors.org have written to you asking to be heard. I don't think feminism is about discrimination. When I see a male survivor, I don't see a man first, I see a child in a lot of pain. Please let the male survivors, my brothers, come forward, let them share their stories, their pain. As a woman in love, my life has been so much affected by my darling's pain. I feel so much rage for his agressor. I believe female and male survivors have so much in common: our courage, our pain, our desire for a better life, our strentgh, our will to heal and recover and our love in our heart. A lot of male survivors are suffering in silence because of the secret they bear, because of the shame they have experienced. Please welcome them, open the door, and let the light in.
Thank you
Caroline

Hi all. I just wrote to Oprah too. My family was featured on Dr. Phil on April 6th and maybe that will open some doors that I've heard you guys have been unable to open. I will do my best and if I get a response, I'm going to be looking to you for guidance. What do you want the public to know, if I'm able to get us "in?" Would anyone be interested in doing the show too?

Thank you,
Teresa

I am willing to share my story. If it helps just one boy/man out there it's worth letting the "world" know about me.

Hi James,
I don't hold out a lot of hope because you guys have said how impossible it has been to get any response but I'll try... Are you interested in Dr. Phil? (He's seen by a large audience though probably not quite as large as Oprah.) I think that an entire show needs to be devoted to the subject instead of just a segment. That would give enough time for whoever wants to do it to be there. Lord knows, it obviously affects a lot of people. The way the shows concentrate on females makes for a lot of shame and isolation for boys. They need to know (like we all do) that it does happen and it does have a huge impact on boys' lives too!
