Loc: so cal
fashioned in mire and filth
ruin makes its home in this tree
bowed in early life by wind
and storms forced upon him angrily

instead of nestling life
or providing shelter from the rains
these leaves fall too generously
the branches weak from pain

often looked upon as broken
even useless and tainted
the struggle in the soul of the tree
it ever, ever increases

and like a cold hard rain let through
that chills you to the bone
the memories come strong
of the tree vanishing there alone

never could a small sapling
amass the strength
to stop the onslaught
of being injured in such ways

fashioned in shame and guilt
ruin makes its home in me
will there be hope of life
something with worth and meaning

this tree has found new sustenance
deep in the roots of pain
ever facing the fears and tragedies
that scarred with such disgrace

now weathered and beaten
from experience and time
healing takes place
from examining deep inside

fashioned in flesh and spirit
ruin has no place in me
Living, loving and sharing the pain
build up the roots that hold me

Thank you. Very nice.

This reminds me of how, for many years, I thought of myself as something broken that could never be repaired.

And, also, how I saw myself as a tree standing alone at the top of him, usually leafless, and blowing in the wind.

The healing has begun. The repair is underway. Leaves are budding out. And here are other trees, a whole grove of friends.

Oh, this is good, isn't it?

And, "a whole grove of friends," what a picture that makes.

Thank you, both,

David
