Glacier

Darkness sliding, glacier-slow
through mind's eternal pain,
Creates a landscape sharply carved
in flesh of human brain.
Though occasionally I stop and look
upon the barren wake--
The damage of a thousand years
all done for one man's sake--
The reality's the creaking groan of a
weight that never dies
until it meets the sun in death
and melts before its eyes.
Though darkness, yes, has come and gone,
the damage lies behind
on mountains, valleys, fallen peaks,
and horrors of the mind.
This slow destruction no one saw has
broken men in two.
Where strength and energy resided,
now's a raging blue,
a swirling, endless, torrential roar--
louder than any sound--
that enters into the souls of beasts,
'til slowly they are drowned.
Emotions stronger than ever felt
throughout the thousand years
now fill each waking moment with a
host of unseen fears,
terrors like a blinding light that
comes from deep inside,
a fatal prison tower light from
which I cannot hide.
I wonder if we'll ever know just
how things could have been,
how this land mass might have looked if
darkness did not win.
Yet, carefully those thoughts are locked
inside the vaults of men.
I try--the door won't open. I
cannot go in again.

Forever Fighting,
Very richly told. Your metaphor toward evening abuse was so well crafted.
"The reality's the creeking groan of a
weight that never dies
until it meets the sun in death
and melts before its eyes."

You can almost feel the night time slither of someone whose weight will load you down with his abuse of you. Then you confirm it with the next line.
"Though darkness, yes, has come and gone
the damage lies behind"

Man that was one well written poem Good job, good job. I really enjoyed your talent.

Not bright enough to get it on a couple readings, Forever. I plan to read it several times more. The poetry is beautiful. Bobby

I wrote this several years ago, but it goes through my head all the time. Everybody gets something different from it, so I hate to say what I get out of it, but I will.

SA is a pressing weight on us and it shapes our minds in a way far different from what might have been if the abuse had never happened. A "thousand years" of damage on us for one perp's action. For me, it was a man. So this thing, this powerful force on our lives haunts us, filling us with the pain and the anger to the point we feel like we'll drowned in them. What was supressed in our minds then comes flooding out with such power, like a blinding light that comes from deep inside, to the point we cannot ignore it, we cannot escape it until we look at the light, face it, and melt its power. What could have been. How many of us have thought about that, and yet there's no way back. We can't go fix it, and what we have was carved by a disgusting, selfish abuser. Mine won't even admit it. So it's like my past is locked behind a door. I can't go back, so I must go forward.

That does suck foreverfighting. But you did describe that all in your poem. My comment sees the sneaking haunting way the abuser lurks about and is sill there. It was a very powerful poem. Sorry to here that you can find no closure with this bast__d but you have found some friends in here who care deeply that you have been wounded. We stand by you as long as it takes.

I always hated poetry, and I can never be one.
When I read stuff in here tho, I am conscious of every word written, and how it relates to so much of one persons life.
Some of the poetry I read in here, would put all the famous poets to shame, why? Because it comes from the heart.
