The Tide

Ever watch what is washed ashore when the tide goes down?

When the past is viewed after some healing I am
able to see things more clearly

What was once covered up now shows up easily,
and sometimes a few things stand out more.

Each time the tide comes in and out the picture changes,
and it is time to redeal with monsters and nightmares.

It is even possible to kill
the monsters and erase the nightmares.

One thing that helps watching the tide is a

friend.

Michael,

I remember so much of being on the beach, as a hurt little boy, just watching the tide roll in and out and the sun going down.

This piece reminds me of those days, when the world turned upside down, and the little boy cried enough tears to fill and ocean.

It is nice to see you back, and thanks for sharing this,

Peace and goodwill,

ste

Oceans and tides are powerful and soothing. Many times I would sneak out of the house at night in high school while everyone slept and walk to the pier in the nearby park. Part of me wanting to jump in, and another part wanting to meet "Mr. Right" who could help me sort out all this turmoil that started when I was six, and sometimes I just wanted to sit and watch a few late-night fishers and listen the night birds and the water. I thought it would all be so much easier after high school and going off to seminary.
No beaches and tides there, but hills and lots of pine trees, and not Mr. Right but a monk, 10 years my senior, who did not help sort things out but made things worse.
The tides of time have their rhythm. Sometimes it is better when the tide is in and you can't see what's hidden.

A friend is something I want. I am too afraid to reach out for one. I am an avoider and an isolator. I know the in and out of memories so now I can visualize an ocean in my effort to calm my own nigtmares. Thanks for this post.

Michael - I have always liked your poetry. The ocean has been such a help to me in the past and now too. I have a cd of just oceans sounds for when I just need to shut the world out. I think of tides coming and and going out. Now your poem even ads more meaning to that. ....Thank-you
