Last night, I pulled an all nighter; Ranata worked a night shift and I wanted to be on her sleep schedule. So, I roamed around the site last night and it reminded me of pulling guard when I was in the ArmyÖI liked watching over you.

Last night I watched over you.
I could hear you breathe,

It made me feel strong to know that I could do that,
Watching over you.

Last night as you slept, I made sure that no one came near,
I know how you can be so filled with fear.

Last night I was the consummate friend,
Someone you could trust.

Last night I watched all the night through,
It made me feel proud of the person, who

I had become, after all these years,
Of hating and crying through my tears.

Last night I became the man,
And showed myself that I can.

Peace to you, my brothers dear,
To look for courage instead of fear.

Last night it was my privilege,
To watch over you,

To make certain that nothing troubled you,
To give you peace of mind,
Until itís peace you find,
For you and yours in kind.

Peace, courage and strength from your brother,

"No soul is desolate as long as there is a human being for whom it can feel trust and reverence."
George Eliot

)Knowing someone was on the watch, always someone there, does make me feel more secure when I sleep (even tho I'm in Mass. and you're in Oregon \:D )

Thanks, David.

Thank you for sharing this with us it is truly a great poem. Do you want to come watch over me when I sleep? lol. I wish I could feel safe when I sleep to have a good nights rest would be something I do not even remember. I thank you my friend for caring enough about your fellow brother to watch and protect him, sometimes all we need to survive is a good friend. Thank you for willing to be that friend. You have a great gift for writing and i am anxious to read more of your poems. If you ever would like to chat pm me anytime. Your friend malidin.

Mother of the kingdom of silence I have obeyed you long enough!!!

We can all use someone to watch over us and keep the darkness away.
Thank you.
