I thought we could start a thread to add words we find that inspire us. No matter who says them, if it warms your heart, helps you get through the day, share them here and we will always have a bank of inspiration to turn to when we need a boost. I'll start with something that was very empowering for me. No one outside ourselves can rule us inwardly. When we know this, we become free.

For Saturday March 12th If you let cloudy water settle, it will become clear. If you let your upset mind settle, your course will also become clear.

Hey Gang! It's gonna get pretty boring here if I'm the only one posting... Well anyway, here is to Monday! In life we cannot avoid change, we cannot avoid loss. Freedom and happiness are found in the flexibility and ease with which we move through change. Take care!

This one always makes me laugh. Sometimes we are quick to criticize others without reflecting upon our own actions, so… Do not notice the tiny flea in the other person’s hair and overlook the lumbering yak on your own nose.

to live happy and peacefully beyond the constriction of a social design and expectation that would have me seek out material things or experiences that would be untrue to what keeps me healthy happy surviving self managing honoring me and mine and 'the other'
in the west they hate and persecute limitation in the middle east they are in denial that they have it in the far east they close their eyes and meditate about it

Good one Mark! I tried to find something good on attachment, but all I could find was this... "Those . . . who find delight in freedom from attachment in the renunciation of clinging, free from the inflow of thoughts, they are like shining lights, having reached final liberation in the world."
Now if I could just give up my attachment to doughnuts.... What all this means is, if I am always trying to find ways to get more money, buy more stuff, or that huge T.V. because I think I can’t be happy without them then I learn to give up my attachment to them. If I can do that I can find happiness and contentment with what I have. Get it?

that's part of it roland - part of what i mean - just go for the attachement - the pleasure - the things that is the one you really want - that help you be happy and healthy - there are so many forms of this too - so i'm not sayin be like me - so in other words - there are good and bad ones - not something or some life design - some non-souled corporation is trying to get you to buy and live - and perepetuate a forcefed lifestyle -
i dunno i am feeling kind of preachy - sorry -
look at ernie ebbers today - all that money and he still had to steal more??? that's not strong - or mentally healthy - or happy - so maybe he going for the wrong thing and he not know it ?
dunno
yuch i feel like i am preaching i don't like that -
later

From "What's So Amazing About Grace?" by Philip Yancey: God loves us because of who He is and not because of who we are. and Grace is free only because the giver himself has borne the cost. Thanks, Joe

Very nice Gang, I’m glad others are getting into this. You'll find that most of my stuff is Buddhist, but that's only because that's what I'm familiar with and I've been hoping others would be offering words from other spiritual origins... So with that said, today's daily Dalai (I have a tear-off calendar on my work desk) says, The essence of Buddhism is if you can, help others. If not, then at least refrain from hurting others. Hugs all ‘round

This thread was so good I had to join in. I am new here and have been searching a long while for someplace I can be myself and also explore avenues for healing such as spirituality, with others. This site has got everything! I am so happy to have found it...here is a fave quote from one of my most beloved spiritual teachers--Vernon Howard....
"STOP FIGHTING
Troubled human beings have everything exactly backward. They think that by winning they can stop fighting. The opposite is true. By ceasing to fight, you win - but what you win is superior and different from what was imagined. A man believes he can end the terrible inner battle by winning wealth or power or endless sexual experiences. If winning them he is dismayed to find that the battle is not over; he must continue the weary fight. His despair is overwhelming, for his dream has turned into a nightmare of compulsive craving. Stop fighting and you win.
Stop fighting and you end the illusion that you must win. You have already won, but you do not understand what this means. Find out."

and here are a couple of "originals" (ie by me)
"The meek may inherit the earth...but someone's going to contest the will."
"If God is your co-pilot....the wrong person is flying."
Looking through an old journal entry, I saw this:
"walk down a dark hallway when you leave your room and you will stumble for a while until you turn a corner and a light from another source will be a guide to where you are going. When you turn around the path behind you is not as dark as you thought or perceived it when you began. You can see the light in your room where you have been and the path back is lighted and not as dangerous as when you left it."

Understanding and compassion are very powerful sources of energy.
They are the opposite of stupidity and passivity.
If you think that compassion is passive, weak or cowardly, then you don't know what real compassion is.
If you think that compassionate people do not resist and challenge injustice you are wrong. ~ Thich Nhat Hanh

When I dance, I dance; when I sleep, I sleep; yes, and when I walk alone in a beautiful orchard, if my thoughts drift to far-off matters for some part of the time, for some other part I lead them back again to the walk, the orchard, to the sweetness of this solitude, to myself. ~ Montaigne

Search for a discipline within freedom!
Don't let yourself be governed by formulae drawn from decadent philosophies: they are for the feeble-minded.
