Another John Lennon song, written for his son Sean. I heard this in the supermarket yesterday afternoon. It always brings tears to my eyes. So there I was, picking up peaches and bread with tears running down my cheeks.
This song speaks of the boundless love Lennon felt for his son. I know that for some of you, the very idea of Father is horribly tainted, but I ask you to use this song to realize that YOU must become your own father. Or just imagine that you are the father you truly needed and need.
My own father was a good man, but he did fail me in a very major way when when I was a young teen and tried to let him know that "something was wrong".
And then he died just a few years later. I don't blame him; it was easy to forgive him for not helping me. It is just the way things went.
So sing this song to yourself. For yourself. From yourself.
Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)
Close your eyes,
Have no fear,
The monsters gone,
He's on the run and your daddy's here,
Before you go to sleep,
Say a little prayer,
Every day in every way,
It's getting better and better,
Out on the ocean sailing away,
I can hardly wait,
To see you to come of age,
But I guess we'll both,
Just have to be patient,
Yes it's a long way to go,
But in the meantime,
Before you cross the street,
Take my hand,
Life is just what happens to you,
While your busy making other plans,
If you understand everything, some things are just as they are. If you understand nothing, things are still just as they are.
