I know it's not technically a "song" (though the music in it definitely affected the mood), but I just saw The Truman Show the other night. And I was affected more deeply than before by the message (stop reading now, if you don't want spoilers to this great movie):
Truman has been manipulated all his life, with his "teachers" trying to wipe out his inquisitiveness to the "outside world" of his small town life. Had messages of fear placed throughout his life, in order to limit his choices. And had it all lorded over him by a director who claims to know more about him than he knows himself.
But once Truman recognizes the truth, nothing can stop him! The director (a complete hypocrite who guards his own privacy jealously, while putting one poor sap's whole life on display without his knowledge) goes out of his way to snuff out the spirit of this man, never realizing just how special that man happened to be.
Truman takes control of his own life, and leaves the confines of the prison that was built for him!
Man, I love this movie!
It's been a source of inspiration in my weak moments.
If you haven't seen it, I'm sorry I ruined it.
