I dunno if there are triggers or not but I put up a warning just in case.

Sometimes I get scared to post, write, say anything about what happened cos its scary. But then I thought about, what if I stop focusing on what scares me and focus on what makes me happy you know?

So yeah, here are some things that make me feel okay.

My girlfriend Sheena
Talking with Sheena
Skating [even though im no supposed to]
Cooking with my dad
Being with my dad in general
Hanging out with my friends and not having to worry about anything.

oh yeah and Sheena! \:\) \:\)

Nyjah,

That's a good way to look at things. After all, you are Nyjah first; you have your own worth and qualities, and these are still yours even after all that has happened to you.

I like your list, but you forgot to mention Sheena! I am sooooo going to report this to her!!! ;\)

Take care,
Larry

Nyjah,

Seriously bro, you have made such a lot of progress since you first came here, and it shows in this thread. The confidence, the humor, the refusal to stay knocked down, the desire to move forward: that's all you, the real Nyjah.

I am so happy for you, and so VERY proud of you!

Take care,
Larry

Nyjah,

Glad u felt comfortable to post again.

Glad u mentioned the good things that are going on with u. We as survivors sometimes forget to consider CSA stuff is not our whole life.

Thanks 4 the reminder.

Nyjah - I like your list and that fact that you're able to see some of the better things life has to offer. In the spirit of your post, here are a few things that make me feel okay:

- Having spit-ball wars with my 9 year old daughter.
- Playing the "What did that one taste like" game after either my daughter or I belch.
- Watching the cat chase the dog.
- Watching the dog chase the cat and try to eat her whole.
- Watching my wife roll her eyes as I do these things, as I let my nine-year-old self out to play for a few minutes.
- Watching the gazillions of birds fly over my house in migration.
- Writing notes to my daughter that I will give her in the future.
- Listening to good music.
- Reading posts from men and boys who were hurt so badly but are healing....that makes me feel good. So thank you. - Peace John

Cool, I'm glad everyone likes this thread. I wasn't sure where to put it cos I didn't know where it should be, it was a tie between Off Topic and here.

Sheena and I had an awesome time tonight, it was really cool. I'm feeling a bit better about posting [or i wouldn't be writing this]. Anyways, glad everyone likes it and hope all is well.

Sinking, you sound like a bit of a troublemaker. \:\) troublemakers unite!

Here are just a few of mine and Little Larry's:

1. Going out to dinner with my wife and just talking.

2. Playing with Bruno (german shepherd) and watching him freak out over his dog toys.

3. Going to the park and throwing Bruno's "stick" (fence post).

4. Playing poker with my wife and kids for money (piles of old pre-WWI German bank notes).

5. Popping popcorn and watching gangster movies with my daughter.

6. Sitting by a rushing stream listening to the water.

7. Reading a good book with a glass of wine.

8. Listening to blues tunes and figuring them out on my guitar.

9. Cooking outside.

10. Seeing jobs all over the house that need to be done, and going out for a walk in the sun instead.

11. Working with my students.

12. Connecting with my brother survivors.

GOOD THREAD!!

Let's see, what are a few of my favorite things, besides Ranata.

Car trips, puppies, long walks, water, anything water...swimming, boating, not much of a fisherman unless they're biting, cats, my cats would never forgive me if I forget cats, involved conversations with people I like, group, can I say group, that I'm enjoying the process of it, now, finally.
These are a few of my favorite things...unless, of course, you want to listen to me talk about my daughters, that could take up the rest of the capacity of the web site.

This is so cool Nyjah, thanks for starting this one!

I like walking in the park with my wife

sitting in front of the fire talking with my wife

watching a movie with my daughter

sitting around on long winter evenings with my daughter and solving the worlds problems

traveling through the beautiful Oregon countryside in the spring and seeing so much beauty that it hurts

singing with my quartet or men's chorus

sitting in our Cannon Beach motel room looking out on the stormy surf

music - from rock to Bach

reading

The list could go on...

Courage,

John

Doing the Sunday crossword puzzle, early in the morning on the couch, with Mary.

When my cat climbs on my desk and lays accross the keyboard, while I'm trying to work.

When my dog is all happy to see me, after I have been away on a business trip for a few days.

Great thread! Thanks for starting it.

Driving in the country - a shame gas is so high.

When you talk to your dog, or other animal, and its facial expressions and gestures make it seem as if they understand you completely - I love that!

Walking on a breezy day.

Spending time with my bees, most of all.

To make problems seems smaller:

1. Find a pole sticking out of the ground.
2. Check that a dog hasn't been by lately.
3. Lay down at the base of the pole, staring up.

You should be able to tell the Earth is spinning below you. You are one person of billions, on a spinnning rock, in the middle of the universe. Somehow, it puts things in perspective for me.

If no pole, or pole is in populated area:

Kids laughing without worrying who can hear
Beautiful objects in nature or art, or just life
The sound of your own heart beating
The sound of your child's heart beating, or someone if you have no child (pets count)
Watch a really funny movie with no point
Bees - notice how they are so focused on work
Smiling dogs can be funny
Listen to rivers flowing, or waves/waterfalls
Swim underwater quietly
Count stars at night
Consider the sound of one hand clapping

Nyjah,

I remember this cool thread from way back when! You have come so far since then. So have we all, I guess.

I saw my own list and I still agree with most of that. But here are two more that are a bit more personal:

- Waiting for my sister Cathie to show up. She could always make me giggle, no matter how bad I felt.
- Putting my hand on my best friend's chest and feeling his heart beating. That amazed me for some reason.

Much love,
Larry

Absolutely. I still have fond memories of that one too. My grandmother's kitchen was always the busiest room in her house, and man, could she ever cook! \:\) What's really cool is that my kids (now 23 and 19) have the same memories about MY mother's kitchen.

Oh why not...

A night of cuddling with my partner (No sex, just talk)

The look in her eyes when I go pick up my daughter.

Her yelling from my ex-wifes porch "DADDY!"

My daughters little arms wrapped around my neck.

Her saying "You're the best daddy in the world"...(that one makes me bawl almost everytime, I was so afraid I would be a horrible dad since I had a horrible dad).

Her saying "I love you, Daddy"

A good cry (Normally shortly after one of the previous five statements)...weather it be about good things or bad.

Listening to music

And, not to forget, fishing with my Dad and my kids. Can't get much better than that.

Singing in the Men's Chorus I'm a member of
Spending time with family
Spending time with friends
Sitting under a tree on a warm spring day
Laying on my back and looking up watching the clouds float by

Bruno! He always knows when I'm down - he brings me his favorite dog toys not so I will play with him, but just to cheer me up. \:\)

We just got a ferret...that thing is so cute and is like a little clown...he makes me smile....its funny to watch it run and steal anything it can get its hands on. I was chasing him across the room ...he had my ring in his mouth...he was gonna hide it!!! Now I cant even take my ring off to wash my hands.
Always thought they were smelly and disgusting but they are so much fun!!!

He makes me smile.

Oh yeah...another thing...getting my car fixed without paying for it, without hassle from the dealership makes me happy!!

Singing.
The sound of the fan running as I fall asleep.
The sound of a rushing stream.
The beauty of kaleidoscopic colors.
A hug from a friend.
Singing.
A view into a heart much like mine.
Soothing music.
A loving, safe hand on my shoulder.
Creating and recording a song from a thought.
Did I mention singing?

Seeing the guys here, no matter how battered they are by their own issues, reaching out to make a difference in each other's healing.
