There are good people in the world, even in families.

Jasper, I've pretty much had to let my whole family go for now, but not because they mock my memories but because they stimulate my memories. Everyone in my family has been hurt in some way or another and we're all trying to lick our wounds the best ways we know how. I find that distance from them is the best way for me to heal.

I haven’t seen most of my family in 15 years, being good Irish catholics there are a lot of us. It was their choice but even if they had chosen to see me I would have had to keep them at a safe distance. They refuse to accept what went on in our family and are angry and hurt about being faced with a truth that they find too painful to accept. I was contacted by one brother a year and a half ago and have met him about four times, that is going okay we have agreed not to talk about the abuse at his request, though stepping around it isn’t always easy. He both wants and doesn’t want to face the truth, he is bipolar and anything that comes too close to the truth sends him off.

The loss for me was like death but death would have been easier and more natural.

I am glad you have one supportive brother, as for Paulie do whatever feels right for you, for me sibling bonds run very deep and are not so easily broken even if I never see them again. I know how hurtful it is not to be believed and how strange the grief is around loosing someone who is alive but we have to let go.
