Resources for adult women victims?

I'm not sure where to post this, but a friend told my wife about being raped. The friend was an adult, probably around 30, when she was raped. She was pregnant at the time and lost the child. She admitted to Susie that she has never worked on recovering.
I contacted the local abused women's shelter a long time ago for an online index of volunteer opportunities in our area, so they're on the list of resources Susie can pass along. But I don't know what's available online. Anyone care to recommend resources that would be helpful for her?
Thanks,
Joe

Hi,
A pretty good "women's" site is TWHJ.com. It is not really just women, but it is mostly women. I started there. It is fairly huge and can deal with the specifics you described.
It is also well moderated, like here.
If it is too big, I can suggest some other, smaller, and tighter sites.
See you,
Sunshine

Sunshine,
Thanks. I suggested to Susie that she pass on that one and RAINN.org, and I found a crisis line at the health department. I hope she gets the help she needs now.
Thanks, and thanks on behalf of our friend,
Joe

An excellent online site is incestabuse.about.com. It is for both women and men, but almost all of the people who post are women. It's very well run and has lots of useful links to survivor support sites, including Male Survivor; sites for just about every mental health problem that a survivor might encounter, including DID (formerly MPD) and PTSD. If your wife's friend has problems with dissociation, she can check the list of therapists who specialize in dissociative disorders at issd.org, the International Society for the Study of Dissociation's website. These are professionals who treat people who have suffered severe emotional trauma, including SA. The list is organized geographically to help you find someone in your area. I hope this helps.

Joe, the forum I go at mostly, it is mostly women, and is very good source of support. It is such as this, with message board format, and also has a chat room, and links to other resources, survivor stories, email support, etc. The address is 'www.soc-um.org/survivors'. I am sorry of your wife's friend, I wish her well.

Mary,
Sorry I didn't respond sooner. The about.com page is still loaded on the browser back in the office since the day I read your post. It is helpful to me.
Susie has not mentioned the other resources to our friend yet. I think she's uncomfortable with the idea.
Still, I start therapy this week with a therapist who specializes in helping victims of incest and sexual at the clinic that I found through rainn.org. Ain't it funny how things work?
Leosha,
Thanks, I'll take a look at that one myself. Maybe if Susie is able to talk to her friend that one will help her. I'll be ready to tell her, too.
Thanks,
Joe
