Your a pretty decent friend to want to know how to help. I suggest your surf some of the posts throughout this site and see where everyone is coming from. It's a great organization. You may especially want to view the Bookstore recommendations as well as some of the articles written by professionals and survivors both.
This site and its participants have greatly enhanced my recovery and enriched my life. Five months ago I was in complete funk. I attribute this site to motivating me to take hold of my recovery and life. I've said things here that I've not had the strength to say elsewhere. Today I am stronger, happier, more decisive, and kinder.
When the time is ready, please invite your friend to visit this site. I will be happy to correspond via e-mail with you or him if I can help point either of you in a useful direction.
You may want to re-post and state more concerning what your friends issues are, or the nature of his abuse so that I and others can reply more specifically.
I wish you and your friend well.
