So we can create jobs for the lane-painters...

I've sort of been to New York once (Laguardia Airport, a stop over between Madison WS and Detroit MI). The bus driver between terminals cut off a person in a car and hung out the window to give the car she cut off the salute and a few choice words while driving. Still I missed my flight. But they are friendly there in NY, when I missed my flight, some guy offered to let me stay at his place for the night. I'm glad they brought the plane back for me (okay, just after take off Detroit Metro closed, but reopened after plane was recalled) and everything worked out.

Gotta love NY, maybe.

Bill

They use lanes, just not the ones that are painted on the road. There are rules to driving in NYC that are different from anywhere else in the world.

Lane: Any spot large enough, or close to it, for my car to fit through.

Parking spot: see lane.

Horn: 1 short honk means hey, I'm here.

Horn: 1 long honk means #$%#@#$@!@#!# you @!#$@#$@#$.

Horn: 2 short honks means that if the nose of my car is in front of the nose of your car, I'm coming in front of you and you better just accept that fact.

Horn: 2 long honks means get out of my way @!#$@3.

Green light: Go

Yellow Light: Go Faster

Red Light: Stop if there is traffic in your way or there is a traffic cop near who actually gives a $#@%.

Speed Limit=How fast you can go between places that you are forced to stop.

AND - just so all the pedestrians don't feel left out...

The flashing "DON'T WALK" sign REALLY means:

Don't walk..... RUN!

Kolisha,

A couple years ago we stayed in Fort Lee and took the buses across the GW Bridge. Pain in the neck was getting back, because the bus wouldn't be on our hotel's side of the divided highway, so we'd get off at the end of the bridge and take a cab. Except for some strange NJ law about no more than 4 passengers per cab. (We're 5 bodies needing 5 seat belts.)

We had a great time. My daughter and I even went by subway to the aquarium (she's our "City Mouse;" the others chickened out.) We even got to take a cross town bus for the trip to the Bronz Zoo. You haven't really emjoyed summer till you've taken the bus. With kids. Kids who've just walked a bunch of miles in the Zoo. \:D

I'd love to get back there, even for a weekend, again this summer. Maybe if I show up in person I can get the Mets on track, watcha tink?

Thanks,

Joe

I almost forgot. We were there for 10 days. On about the third or fourth day, we met a film crew in the subway. They said they were working on a PBS special about the subway, and they interviewed us. Our oldest son was 9 back then, and he told them he was disappointed with the subway because "I haven't seen any rats!" \:D We never heard about the show being produced. I would have loved to see him saying that on TV!

To this day he hasn't seen vermin in NY's subway, but he has (as have I) in Washington's Metro.

Thanks. Lots of good memories in that trip.

Joe
