I have just found a link to a site, where all of the drugs that are prescribed for depression are rated by those who have used them. It also lists the effects of other holistic approaches. you can find the link on this web page

It's interesting that therapies rate higher than Prozac, which is the probably first drug prescribed for depression.
I tried Prozac but it made my panic attacks worse, to the state I was feeling worse than the depression it was supposed to help.
One word of caution though, PLEASE see your doctor if you are depressed, and DON'T self medicate.

I dont self medicate, and I hope that people regard these indications as how individuald react to medication.
What works for me may not work for somebody else, but it is only an indication for people who wonder what a drug is capable of doing.
My medication is far from perfect and it is citalopram which figures pretty high in their findings, so I go with it.
It is just that we all respond differently to drugs, but we must learn to let them "kick in", before we dismiss them.
I took this drug and it was like a ride thru Hell, but it shows me just how screwed up my mind really was.
Panic attacks stopped me driving, and other things, but I just have to stop and think of myself for once.

I found this bit of information in the margin and thought it was interesting.
It seems that psychotherapy is found to be extremely useful in treating childhood trauma.
Here's what they say:
"Psychotherapy versus pharmacotherapy in patients with chronic forms of major depression and childhood trauma November 2003. In this study, 681 patients with chronic forms of major depression were treated with an antidepressant (nefazodone), Cognitive Behavioral Analysis System of Psychotherapy (CBASP), or the combination. Overall, the effects of the antidepressant alone and psychotherapy alone were equal and significantly less effective than combination treatment. Among those with a history of early childhood trauma (loss of parents at an early age, physical or sexual abuse, or neglect), psychotherapy alone was superior to antidepressant monotherapy. Moreover, the combination of psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy was only marginally superior to psychotherapy alone among the childhood abuse cohort. The results results suggest that psychotherapy may be an essential element in the treatment of patients with chronic forms of major depression and a history of childhood trauma. "
The last line really bears out what so many of us here know from experience.
A good therapist and regular consultations are an essential element in the treatment of depression and other effects of sexual abuse.
Thanks for the good link.
Regards,

Ste - Thanks for sharing the drug post. I really appreciated the anedotal records supporting the ratings. Usually all I get to read are the clinical stuff (ugh!!) but it was informative to hear from users of the meds and how it is in the "real world".

I suppose I am pretty good at researching stuff on the net.
Yeah, I was thinking at the time, that there is so much confusion over different forms of treatment, and ppl saying how good or bad drugs can be.
I am hoping to find a *good* therapist pretty soon, but I suffer from boundary issues which affect my daily life.
In many ways I have *Grown* from past events, but I have to put things back into perspective, and try to love life again.
I do not think it can ever help to try and just 'get over it yourself', because it just has a habit of returning with avengeance,
