I think it's interesting that this question will get different answers depending on where you are at in life when you respond to it.

I posted a big list of things I'm proud of because I'm in a good place right now and I feel like kicking butt in life. A month ago? It wouldn't've been so positive.

Sounds like you're living under your own personal rain cloud at the moment Obi, which is OK. You'll get out from under it in due time, just like I will probably get back under mine at some point (and then out again). Cycles of life. Your value as a valid human being is intrinsically part of yourself because you are a living, breathing person and with that fact always comes potential for good and for love. Nobody can fulfill that potential to the maximum all the time, but on the flip side, it's basically impossible for someone to be "just a waste". Your pain and your experience and your perception of life cannot help but contain some grain of truth and light within it, no matter how buried it gets. smile

I simply saw this as an opportunity to give ourselves a collective pat on the back.
it felt good to take an inventory of accomplishments.

everyone here has something to
be proud of.
a little bragging should be good for the self esteem.

sometimes, obi, when I feel like I am worthless,
or I think I suck, I still know, deep in my heart,
that those are lies.
I refute that negative voice in my head.
I ignore the inner insults.
I label them as libel and slander and rumour and gossip.
I provide my own positive propaganda
until the anti-me media marketing campaign loses all credibility.
if I don't take to my own defense in the court of self opinion,
I've already lost the case.

They are not lies. I was told by several people that I hurt them. It is obvious that is all I can do.

Sometimes you hurt people, Obi, and it's a lesson from the past to help the future. I know I've hurt people and it's been because I've been ignorant of how I came off and what I thought. Therapy and introspection and meditation and epiphanies illuminate those blind spots and make us be better people. Regrets reinforce blind spots and hold us back from being better people.

Also, sometimes people will blame you for their hurt when they should really be looking harder for real answers instead of easy ones. I can't say for sure what's a better fit for what you're talking about but in either case, you do have value, mistakes and all (everyone does; everybody has made mistakes, and nobody has avoided hurting others in life). The difference between the worthy people in life and the shitty people in life isn't the difference between perfection and imperfection, it's the difference between trying to be a better person today than you were yesterday versus not even trying. And being here is a pretty clear sign that you're trying smile

the very fact that you recognize and regret
that you have harmed others is a major lifetime accomplishment!

this makes you an excellent human with emphatic ability.
congratulations!
I believe this puts you in a small
but superior minority.

now that you have acknowledged and admitted and accepted your actions, you can apologize and make
atonement to those you have hurt.

this worked for me.
it may work for you.

I feel much better about all the damage
and pain I have inflicted on others,
intentionally and in ignorance,
throughout my life.

Doesn't matter. Even my apologies hurt others. Been told so. I am even hurting this thread by hijacking it. I just suck. Leaving this thread now.
