In Vermont there are five seasons, the four we're all familiar with, and then there's mud season. Mud season occurs sometime between March 15th and April 15th, when the air begins to warm and the snow and frozen surface of the ground begins to melt. The deeper soil is still frozen so the water can't seep down into the ground. It stays on the surface and turns everything into mud. Walk from the car to the front door and your shoes are covered with it and ruined. Unpaved roads often become impassable. This is what my road looks like. Cars have been known to get stuck in the deeper mud that can go up to their wheel wells. Its a difficult time, but it beats this winter. Up to four feet of snow, temperatures down to -30f. ENOUGH! Bring on the mud!

hey jude
thanks for that memory smile one year when I was in 4th grade at this time of year my little brother and I got permission to walk to the end of the road to check the mail. my dad probably figured "how much trouble could they find?" we wandered from the road into a muddy field and got stuck up to our thighs in mud. by the time I finally got out and decided that I could not get my brother out. and then convinced him that I had to go get help and wandered back to the road my dad was on his way driving down to find us. probably the only time someone came to the rescue... damn that felt good. kinda brings a tear now
thanks man
Jeff

Hey Jude. That looks like some serious mud you are dealing with there. You could use a good 4x4 to get you through that. Other than the muddy road it looks like you live in a really cool environment.
Just so you won't feel too bad about the weather there, it is -16C here which converts to about 4F I believe. It is the coldest temperature reading for this day in April ever recorded in these parts. We have had some nicer weather but there is still a 2' snow pack left to melt with about 3' in the bush. The local lake has 58" of ice on it in places. Yes we are very weary of Winter here to. On a positive note we are supposed to see much warmer conditions in a week or so.

Hey Jeff. I just wanted to thank you for sharing the memory you have of your father coming to your and your brothers rescue. I caught the depth and meaning of it for you. For some of us a memory like that is priceless. We here that know you value you Jeff. We would all head down the road to rescue you to. "You are not alone".

I have no business complaining about our Georgia "winters."
