Please Note: This poem is an expression of the hopelessness I've felt the last few weeks. It's a big deal for me to own my feelings, express them, and not be stuck in them. The words are dark so I can be light. I'm a survivor, a few shitty weeks are nothing compared to what I've passed through.

The Past Few Weeks

I'm healing but failing at life
Running winded
Keeping cramped shin splint steps moving
Searching for a finish line where it's ok to collapse

My few fans are frustrated
Their cheers don't seem help
But they don't know the hell of running
While people only see you walking in place

Your feelings do matter
You're frustrated and sad
You deserve the comfort
I don't remember how to give

I wonder if you understood
How hard consolation is
When daily feelings lead me to wonder
If buckshot or slug would be less painful
Than to live

Again, just a dark poem to excorcise my shifty week. I'm ok.

It was a bad week that brought me back to the support of others.

The one absolute truth I have learned is we all have bad spells.

My wife tries to understand but, I often get the I must care for the wounded puppy look. Not what I am looking for. Sometimes I just have to wrestle with the "ugly bits" to make it all fit together in a picture I can understand.

Try to remember life is like a cardiac strip, if there are no ups and downs, it is over. Seize the joy where you can and know you are not alone.
