i'm seventeen and i've been having nightmares for thirteen years five to six times a week. i was recently taken off topamax because even at a hundred fifty milligrams a day it wasn't helping. nothing hurts anymore, it just aches (all the time), but i can't keep having these nightmares. i can't keep taking four half hour showers a day.

can someone suggest a medication or something that will help? i've been in therapy for years but all that seems to be happening is me waiting it out... but it's not stopping.

(i'm sorry if this is nt the kind of thing to be posted in this forum but i couldn't figure out where to put it)

Hello neglect,

It hurts my heart to hear of the suffering you are going through. I am saddened that your physician has not found a medication that will bring you relief.

It sounds like such a long and painful life you have had. You surely deserve some feeling of wellness and happiness in life.

The medicine you mention is not anything I know about. Maybe someone else has or is taking it and might comment.

If you are a survivor of sexual abuse, you are in the correct place at the correct time. You can post whatever you need to post here and you will at least get our caring support for you. And it sounds lie you can use lots of support.

Let us get to know you better and then we can maybe be better at helping you.

Don't give up though. Somehow, a good solution will be found that will make your life more happy than it is now.

Bob

neglect,

i just got off of topamax myself...it was not doing anything to me either, but was mostly prescribed as an anticonvulsant (i have partial complex epilepsy), not an anti-depressant...(which it did level out some of my mood swings, but the numbness you describe seems to have been a side effect: and one that i prefer not to live with)...so i am trying to see if i can hang with it drug-free a while (i have tried everything from anti-psychotics to natural remedies)...

nightmares have been the plague of my life...i was diagnosed ptsd last year and am finally getting some sleep now and then...so yes, it take a while...

you have been in a therapy a long time to not be getting anywhere...i think you need to change therapists...something in your current arrangement is not helping you and medication is not necessarily the answer...

do you feel that therapy is helping you at all?

I am on effexor and welbrutin. They seem to work for me but they make me sweat a lot.

I first say welcome at you. I am quite a new person here also, and I am glad that you come here for help and advice, it is very good place. I am so sorry, at same time, that you have to be here. I can not give advise on medicines, I do not do that yet, but think I will get something soon. All I get as medicine is something to help sleep, which maybe is what will help you some? What they give me is called Ambien, I can take one or two, it works pretty well. I think it is hard, that you are in therapy for so long. Is it with same person? I do not do therapy yet, but I tihnk if it is to go on that long, maybe you need a new person? You may just be too comfortable with that one, it is not work for you? Just thought, as I say, I am not with a therapy person yet. I hope something works better for you.
