Maybe I have too much time on my hands. I found myself pretty down today. This month is going to be rough for me. Spoke briefly with a friend in chat on here (you know who you are!) and he gave me a link to something which really cheered me up. It got me thinking, what other things have I been forgetting...? And then I got this crazy idea. So, at the risk of destroying this classic...

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens,
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens,
Brown paper packages tied up with strings,
These are a few of my favorite things...

Cream colored ponies and crisp apple streudels,
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles,
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings,
These are a few of my favorite things...

Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes,
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes,
Silver white winters that melt into springs,
These are a few of my favorite things...

When the dog bites,
When the bee stings,
When I'm feeling sad...
I simply remember my favorite things,
And then I don't feel, so bad!

(Here are mine!)

Snow-covered mountains and warm fuzzy huskies,
Mystery-packed road trips and blue sapphire seas,
Sounds of a bow making music on strings,
These are a few of my favorite things...

Freshly washed laundry and soft cotton pillows,
Canyons and caverns and grass-laden meadows,
Fond little memories of playing on swings,
These are a few of my favorite things...

Hot morning coffee and bright rays of sunshine,
Dining with old friends whilst drinking fine wine,
Strolls in the park and the joy that it brings,
These are a few of my favorite things...

When my dad mails,
When my mom calls,
When I'm feeling mad...
I simply remember my favorite things,
And then I don't feel, so bad!

(It would be awesome if anyone would add and share their favorite things!)

Really nice poem. Glad to see you able to acknowledge your sadness and still think of happy or cheerful things.

My favourite things?

hearing a purr while petting a cat
stretching and relaxing on my yoga mat
myself being held with the joy it can bring
these are a few of my favourite things

Ohh! and
untroubled worlds with cartoon ponies
cold days kept warm by fleecy onsies

Edit Reason: added a line
“what matters most is how well you walk through the fire”
-Charles Bukowski

some context

I'm not even going to try to do the SoM song, as much as I love a good musical number... But here you go!

My Favourite Things

Lukewarm tea at 5am
Singing in the car with a friend
The wobble of a canoe in the middle of a lake
and the moment when your hand dips under the water when you are paddling along
Long, meandering conversations you can get lost in

Winding someone up
My prs guitar
Traveling with my best friend
Skateboards and swing sets

When my husband gets home from work and hugs me and says "Hey, Sparky, how was your day?"

Building a fire
Moments when being with my kids is easy
Vegetarian sushi, coconut anything, raspberries
Inside jokes

Sleeping in a tent
Sleeping in a tent in the rain
Sleeping in a tent in the winter
Adventure Time

Talking to people
Spending time with people
Laughing at myself
Farmers markets

Jumping into an ice cold lake on a summer day

Feeling ok with who I am
Finding people who are ok with it too
Sorting laundry

Baking challah when I'm really emotionally scattered and feeling myself coming back together

Playing soccer

Sometimes life gets so heavy
It's easy to forget the lightness in every day
But it's always there
I just need to remind myself to look up
And see it
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
