Toyota Auris Hybrid, over here in the UK the lovely UK government tax your salary if you have a company car which they base on the CO2 output.

I had a Volvo before this and at the start of each year I owed the government tax on around 2K of earnings before I'd even started earning.

This picture is similar to our current truck, my wife wanted it and it's growing on me.

No shame in a hungry beast, imo. My neighbor ditched his monster, black F150 for a Prius this year (wtf?). Loves the mileage, but I think he's lost some of his moxie.

Nothing wrong with a Prius Lancer, I've been driving Hybrids for the last 7 years and would go completely electric if I could. Mind you with petrol at around 1.30 per litre over here in the UK or around 6.40 dollars per US gallon you can see why.

Wow. The FJ Cruisers are way cool machines.

I almost bought a hybrid a few years back. I found a 2001 Honda Insight for sale. But I realized that a 2 seater probably wouldn't work for the long term. Still though a very fun car to drive (and it could get up to 70 mpg!).

Atari-kid86 & Suwanee,

I've owned quite a few old Mercedes diesels over the years. I bought my first in 1987, a 1968 200D with the little fins, was an awesome car. Years later (90's) we bought used 300D sedans & wagons for cheap dependable commuter cars. We bought them well used with hundreds of thousands of miles & decades on them. I used to tinker with them adjusting valves, changing oil, etc.. They saved us a lot of money over the years. I ended up junking most of them, even though they ran, it was just easier to replace with another when rust or other peripheral items got to bad. They *were* surprisingly good in the snow with studded snow tires, too. They are just all around awesome cars with drive trains last seemingly forever.

I bought my wife an 06 Jeep Liberty TURBO DIESEL new when they came out. Mercedes owned Chrysler /Jeep a couple of years and experimented with putting their diesel engines in to the Liberty & Grand Cherokee. We love our liberty, has 147K on it now and runs like a champ, surprisingly fast too. This is one we plan on keeping for 20 years or more.

I drive a 98 Lincoln Navigator with 112K miles, a big pig on gas but need it to haul all the big toys. I'm not pissing away $60K for a new one just because mine is long in the tooth.

If I was in the position to throw money away at a new car today, I'd buy a new Caddy, their new Xts sedan. I always loved Caddys ever since my father bought one used in 1975, an all white 1964 sedan Deville with the short fins, man I loved that car and it lighted my fire for big Caddys & Lincolns.

My very first car in 1985 was a long black 1977 Lincoln Town Car, one huge boxy lead sled of a car. It was my favorite car. That car was so posh with it's pillowed leather interior, oval opera windows in the back, with a ride like it was a magic carpet. I still look and drool at the survivors on Ebay Motors from time to time.

This is cheating a bit, because it's actually my dad's car. But he lets me drive it. I haven't passed my test yet. When I drive he's usually hanging on to the dashboard screaming that I'm too close to the edge of the road. I'm not! It's just his perception is all off because he's in the passenger seat for a change.

It's an Isuzu Trooper. It recently hit 333,333 miles and it's about as old as me. You can barely see any of the rust in this picture!

I looked high and low to find a picture of my first car, but came up empty. This is NOT my old car, but it's pretty close. It was a 1976 BMW 2002--white with blue interior, 4-speed manual, manual crank sunroof, non-working A/C and a small dent in the door. We bought it from a neighbor for $3,500 and I kept it for six years before selling it for $4K. I really, really, really miss that car.

Will
