I have taught some ESL. The L and R thing is really amazing. People unless they are trained to cannot hear the difference between those two sounds. Human mind is a really neat thing.

I remember once with a small group of really eager Japanese students getting them to do a Tongue Twister.

Red Leather Yellow Leather
Red Leather Yellow Leather
Red Leather Yellow Leather
Red Leather Yellow Leather

After one or two iterations as a group it descended into a mess of R sounds and reminded me of dogs making "ruff" noises. Useful exercise for them even if I took a little too much pleasure at their current inaccuracy whistle

well, as we know, the feeling is mutual.

i just came from a japanese bible study group
and they had a lot of laughs at my lack of lucidity.

i don't mind entertaining them at all.
i am the one getting free japanese lessons.

for your amusement,
here are some interesting nihongo no hayakuchi kotoba
translation: japanese quickmouth phrase (tongue twister)

"Uraniwa niwa niwa niwa niwa niwa niwatori ga iru."
In the back garden there are two and in the front garden there are also two chickens.

"Kono neko koko no neko no koneko kono koneko ne."
This cat is the kitten of the cat here, this kitten!
