Hello,

My name is Mark. I live half year in Florida and half in Maine. I recently left a Intensive Outpatient Program for depression and have started to deal with my sexual abuse history. I never realized how much it has affected me over the years. I look forward to learning more and using the site to connect with other guys who can understand.

Thanks...

Hey MarkH,

I am glad you found the site too! Welcome. Let yourself be proud of the fact you have identified and started to work on your sexual abuse history - it itself is a big step.

I have found the site an amazing resource in dealing with my sexual abuse and my accompanying depressive symptoms. Give yourself patience and compassion as you move along the process and continue to use this site - ups and downs are to be expected. Just keep reading the forums here and opening up to us as you get more comfortable.

With Hope,

Cthulhu

Hello Votecthulu

Thank you for the kind welcome. I will see my Therapist twice a week and may have access to a male survivor treatment group in my local area. I would, however, much rather go to a treatment center for several intensive weeks to focus on this once and for all and then go into individual therapy. Are you aware of any rehabs for only male survivors?

Thanks!

MarkH

MarkH,

The closest thing that I am aware of are the Weekends of Recovery(WoR). They're not exactly what your looking for but should offer you a bit more of an intensive feel. But, it may be worthwhile to ask around some more. Someone here might know of more intensive longer term treatment programs.

MarkH,
As far as I know, Like votecthulhu said, the WoR is the support MS has. I just returned from the one in Hope Springs, OH. It was the most pivotal thing so far in my recovery!

Just left therapy and she is just amazed at how far I've come since my LONG drive to Ohio! It helped me TREMENDOUSLY!

I would also check 1n6.org and snapnetwork.org for those abused by priests. You can also check RAINN and the crisis lines. But for specifically male sexual trauma, your at the place in my opinion!

Welcome, reachout to your local chapter of support. I wished there was something here! I'm in the process of creating(?) a support group here!

All the luck in the world to you! Your on the right path! Stay the course!

Welcome MarkH,

You sound really commited to recovery. Good for you! This has festered too long under the surface. Time to get it out in the open. You'll do well. We're all with you.

"I never realized how much it has affected me over the years."

That's what got me the most once I realized what had happened. I started looking back and all of a sudden it was like a tidal wave of revelation about how much my life had been diverted due to 4 months when I was 11.

Good that you have gotten to this point and this site! Welcome, peace and love!

Hi Mark and welcome. I'm glad you have been able to move into recovery so quickly, and I appreciate your intensity. I want to suggest you just bring some awareness to how quickly it is possible for you to hurry the process. The damage sexual abuse does can be quite deep, and the recovery can take quite a long time. I just want you to be able to be sensitive to what your needs are, not trying to tell you what to do. You can live your life and be in recovery, too. And, ultimately you won't be able to manipulate the process to move any more quickly than it is able to go. So, don't be in too big a hurry to rush things. If your efforts to hurry things along are met with quick success, then your probably in the groove. If your efforts to hurry things along are met with obstacles, then that probably is just a signal from the universe that hurrying is not in your best interests.

Just my opinion,

Don

Hi Don,

I understand what you are saying. As I am just coming out of an intensive outpatient program, I am "opened up" right now and am in the space to keep going. As you indicated, this is not going to be "fixed" anytime soon. Perhaps I can get through the first or second layers and then take a it a bit more slowly.

I appreciate your comments!
