So I thought I would post to see if it is helpful with how I am feeling. The rational 39yo knows why I feel this or at least I have been told it's ok to feel this way. I started recovery in August and between the meds and my just plain stick your head in the sand I haven't been able to cry. I have only cried twice since starting. I was blaming this on the meds but that theory was blown out if the water today. I have been a wreck Tears flowing for no reason.. Hope it stops soon I really hate being emotional it makes me feel week.

Flight,

Where you see weakness, I see strength and progress. I hope you will see that too.

All my best,
Matt

Flight--

For decades I've had spells of suddenly wanting to cry, or even starting to cry, without knowing why. Usually there didn't appear to be any particular trigger or other related circumstance. All I knew was that I felt a crushing sadness that didn't seem to be "about" anything.

It still happens after 19 years of "recovery," but I find it a BIG PLUS to know WHY that awful feeling hits. Sort of buffers me from the impact. Peace!

John

Hi FM,

Yeah the tears came hard to me too, but when they did come I was afraid they'd never stop. 43 years of them stored up is not good for a guy. And as much as I hated crying till my throat was sore, till my eyes were swollen shut, and till snot ran down my face, it had to be done. It had to come out.

Its kind of like how a woman feels when she's having a baby. Once it starts coming it can't be stopped. It hurts like hell. And when its all done you have a new person.

Hi FM,

My take is that tears are trapped emotions coming out. ALWAYS a good thing. My training says otherwise, but my training is fucked. I know the tears are a good thing, and I will continue to do my best to unlearn the old and welcome my tears. I have an enormous amount of unshed tears.

Wishing you well,

Don

Well welcome to the world of recovery. ONce the flood gates are open there is no going back. You are at the beginning of your recovery and it was the most difficult time for me also. I suspect the crying is you healing and recovery taking its course. It may be uncomfortable and bewildering but i believe we have to learn to feel again in order to reconnect with our wounds and emotions. I came to understand that everything in my recovery became an opportunity for growth and enlightenment.

stay strong.
