The following material is explicit and disturbing, but serves to expose a corrupt system of institutional child abuse – in this case by the State of California – through a system which is meant to protect vulnerable children, not push them further into a nightmare of abuse by criminals. Society must shine a flood light on our court system, foster care and violations by adult individuals who are using our institutions to hide their crimes against humanity.

The following summaries are a few selected samples of real California Family Law cases (catogorized by county), in which children are taken away from safe parents, and forced to live with abusive parents. Is this becasue the abuser is offered money to film his sexual abuse against the child so the judicial system gets a kick back? All involved would be local police, judges, children services, attorneys and even medical examiners.
You decide after reading the following, is $8 billion a year worth this type of corruption.
When these children were four, seven and nine years old, they were taken from their mother who was accused of non-evidentiary Parent Alienation Syndrome, and placed in the full custody of their father. This occurred in 1996, after the two girls disclosed molest by their father, despite corroborative medical evidence, explicit disclosures of abuse to law enforcement, and receipt of California Victims of Crime funding for therapy due to the crime committed against them. They had a cluster of symptoms indicative of sexual abuse, including nightmares, encopresis, excessive fears, sexualized behavior, depression, dissociation, anger, physical pains, headaches, constipation, and stomach aches. The mother, found by the court to be a good, loving mother and not accused of any crime, has been on supervised visitation since the reversal of custody three years ago. The mother, bankrupt after spending $250,000, must represent herself in court against the father’s attorney. The children’s attorney functions as a de facto attorney for the accused perpetrator.
Contra Costa County
After disclosing molest by her father, this 11-year-old victim and her two siblings were forced to continue overnight, unsupervised visits with the identified perpetrator. The father admitted molesting his daughter and was convicted. Nevertheless, overnight visits were court ordered to continue. In 1997 the five-year-old daughter disclosed molest by the father. Unsupervised visits continued because the court determined the father was not able to pay a supervisor.
El Dorado County
In 1998 this 4-year-old boy was taken from his mother and given to his physically abusive father. He is barred from any contact from his mother.
This little girl, born in 1994, was taken away from her mother when she was a toddler, and placed with her father, despite her on-going disclosures of sexual abuse by the father. She had a cluster of symptoms indicative of sexual abuse including anger, phobias, eating problems, insomnia, constipation, headaches, nausea, regression, terror when her diapers were changed, night terrors, and attention problems. These problems increased when she was placed with the father, but the numerous reports to CPS have been to no avail. The child cries until she vomits when she leaves her mother on week-end visits and is forced to return to the father.
Los Angeles/Orange County (Torrance)
Born in 1988, this little girl was placed in the custody of her mother when she was five years old, seeing her violent father only in the presence of a court monitor. When she was seven, she was forced to see her father without a supervisor, and reported to professionals that he was sexually and physically abusing her. The abuse was corroborated by medical evidence. She had a cluster of symptoms indicative of sexual abuse including nightmares, night terrors, enuresis, encopresis, excessive fears of her mother dying, depression, suicide attempt, eating disorder, extreme dissociation, intense anger, flashbacks, physical pains, headaches, insomnia, nausea, diarrhea, constipation, stomach aches, and a learning disability. Rather than protecting her, Judge F. granted primary custody to her father. In Utah, where her mother had moved, physical and sexual abuse was substantiated and she received complete court protection. However, California regained jurisdiction and placed her with the father. The child, now 11, is only able to see her non-offending mother for 8 hours per month under supervised conditions.
These two children, a boy born in 1982 and a girl born in 1984, were in the full custody of their mother who was a victim of domestic violence. In 1989 and 1990, both children disclosed sexual abuse by the father. They had a cluster of symptoms indicative of sexual abuse, including lack of intact hymen, vaginal infections, nightmares and night terrors, enuresis and encopresis, phobias, sexualized behavior, depression, eating disorders, intense anger, headaches, and stomach aches. The mother was charged by the State of Georgia for not protecting the children from the father. The children received California Victims of Crime funding for therapy due to the crimes committed against them. However, in 1990 the California court took the children away from their mother and put them with the father’s family. The mother was placed on supervised visitation. In 1992 the father gained custody and hid the children from their mother. $36,000 back child support owed to the mother was erased, and the court doubled her payments of child support. In 1997 the mother was assaulted and injured in the courthouse by the father, who continued to terrorize her. The mother, a court monitor herself, was chosen “1995 Humanitarian of the Year” by her university.
Los Angeles County Superior Court
Born in 1987, this child began masturbating at school and reported sexual abuse by her father when she was seven years old. The Department of Children and Family Court Services (DCFS) concluded she had been sexually abused. She was placed in the custody of her mother, and saw her father on court-ordered supervised visits. The child repeatedly asked to be placed with her mother and consistently reported sexual molest by her father, even in court. Nevertheless, in she was taken away from her non-abusive mother and placed in the custody of her father on the recommendation of an evaluator. In 1994 DCFS filed another sexual-abuse petition against the father in juvenile court. However, the child remained in the custody of her father, despite having a court-appointed attorney who does not represent the wishes of the child. In 1998, the court cut off her off from all contact with her non-offending mother. Currently this severely learning-disabled child is allowed to see her mother only twice a week under supervised conditions. The mother is now bankrupt.
Los Angeles/Riverside County (Torrance Superior Court)
This child was raised by her mother who has never been accused of any crime. In 1998 she was taken away from her mother and legal father, and forced to live with a man whom she has continuously stated sexually abused her. She is allowed no contact with her mother, who has tried unsuccessfully to protect her.
Los Angeles County
This two-year-old girl disclosed sexual abuse by father, and was given to identified abuser. The mother is on supervised visits.
These small children were placed in the custody of their mother when they were nearly one and two years old. Their violent father was ordered to take a parenting class. A year later they were taken away from their mother and forced to live with their father. The judge stated he was only interested in the mother’s “alienation” (the mother was breast-feeding), and ignored police reports of the father’s domestic violence and history of DUI’s. The unemployed mother is ordered to pay child support of over $1200 per month to the multi-millionaire Israeli father (who obtained a green card through their marriage). The toddlers are being raised to speak only Hebrew and are only allowed scant contact with their mother, who cannot afford an attorney.
Born in 1990, this child made graphic disclosures of rape by his father, including group sex, to physicians, therapists, and detectives. He had a cluster of symptoms indicative of sexual abuse including sexualized behavior, depression, suicide attempt, eating disorder, extreme dissociation, intense anger, physical pains, headaches, insomnia, nausea, diarrhea, constipation, stomach aches, learning disability and attention problems. CPS did not protect him. The child’s attorney did not represent the child’s wishes. Despite saying that he wanted to live with his mother, he was forced to live with his identified perpetrator who then moved to Boston. He is rarely allowed to see his mother, and only with a supervisor.
Born in 1989, this child was taken from his mother after he disclosed that his father beat him when he was 4 years old. There was medical evidence of abuse. The child had a cluster of symptoms indicative of sexual abuse, including sexualized behaviors, depression, intense anger, nightmares and night terrors, headaches, stomach aches, bladder problems and enuresis, diarrhea, phobias, and attention problems. The boy stated he wanted to live with his mother, and instead was forced to live with his father. The child’s attorney does not represent the wishes of the child. The non-offending mother has spent approximately $85,000 and must represent herself in court.
Los Angeles (Long Beach and Concord)
This four-year-old child lived with his mother and 3 brothers in Long Beach after his parents separated in 1997. When the mother decided to move to Northern California, the judge ordered the child delivered to Southern California every week for visits in 1998. An evaluator recommended a change of custody to the father, despite the mother complying with the visitation schedule.
This little girl reported sexual abuse, corroborated by 4 medical reports, by her father who physically abused and choked her mother unconscious. She was placed in the custody of her mother, a bank vice president, and saw her father only under supervised conditions. The father threatened and stalked them until the mother and child took refuge in a battered women’s shelter. The child was forced to visit her father without supervision, and was subsequently re-abused. Her mother was court-ordered not to take her to the doctor. The mother fled with her daughter to Europe in 1992, because she could not obtain protection for the child through California family law court. They were found 1½ years later, and the child was placed in the full custody of her father. Her mother went to prison for depriving the father visitation, is prohibited from contacting her daughter, and is ordered to pay the father $65,000 in restitution.
In 1997, these five- and six-year-old brothers were taken away from their mother, amid allegations that the mother deliberately kept the youngest child sick. The five-year-old was subsequently hospitalized when the father did not take care of his illness. The father threatened suicide at the hospital, and had to be subdued, disarmed and taken to a psychiatric hospital by police. Subsequently, the boys were placed in foster care. The five-year-old, who suffered from a rare blood sugar disease, became fatally ill and died after social worker and foster parents failed to provide appropriate medical care, in spite of the mother’s pleas. The older boy is forced to live with his father, despite his statement that he wants to live with his mother, and statements by his older sister to CPS about sexual abuse by their father. He is only allowed to see his non-offending mother with a court monitor. The mother has won 3 wrongful death lawsuits against the father and the county totaling over $800,000.
This child, when she was 6 years old, was ripped from her mother’s arms and given into the custody of her father whom she had reported molested her. She begs to come to live with her mother, who has spent several hundred thousand dollars trying to protect her.
Born in 1994, this little girl began disclosing sexual abuse when she was only 1½ years old. She identified her father as the perpetrator. She eventually told a doctor, counselor and school teacher about the abuse. She had a cluster of symptoms indicative of sexual abuse, consisting of nightmares, night terrors, sexualized behavior, enuresis, fear of her father, depression, eating disorder, dissociation, extreme anger, physical pains, headaches, insomnia, nausea, and stomach aches. Despite documentation of the sexual abuse to the court, she is forced to stay unsupervised with her father. The child’s attorney does not represent his client’s wishes. The mother has spent approximately $150,000 trying to protect her child and is now without an attorney. She has not seen her child.
This boy, born in 1990, was placed in the custody of his mother after to his parents divorce, with overnight visits with his father. When he was less than two years old, he began reporting on-going sodomy by his father. He had a cluster of symptoms indicative of sexual abuse, including rectal bleeding, nightmares, night terrors, enuresis, encopresis, sexualized behavior, depression, extreme dissociation, intense anger, flashbacks, physical pains, insomnia, diarrhea, and stomach aches. The child disclosed the abuse to 5 teachers, family physician, therapists, police, family and friends. There were over 62 reports of suspected abuse in 7 years. Child Protective Services investigated and substantiated 7 reports of child sex abuse. The child wrote and talked to the judge, asking to live with his mother and grandmother. Instead, the court repeatedly placed him in the custody of his identified perpetrator. He called 911 for help from his father’s house, and his therapist called the police to help him, and was put into expensive private foster care, rather than with his non-offending mother. He was able to stay with his mother while she was dying. Four months after her death, he was forcibly removed from his non-offending grandmother’s care by armed police. He was placed in expensive foster care again for over six months, and is now forced by Juvenile Court to live with his identified perpetrator permanently. The child’s attorneys did not represent his wishes, and functioned as de facto attorneys for the accused perpetrator.
This child, born in 1986, had nightmares and medical evidence of sexual abuse at age 4 ½ years, and identified her father as the perpetrator. The judge ordered that the father’s new wife supervise the visits. The child again disclosed molestation. CPS and the sheriff’s department placed her in the Children’s Receiving Home. After a 6 month investigation and UC Davis Medical Center examinations, the little girl was placed with her mother, and the father was not allowed visits. During reunification, the therapist recommended unsupervised visits. The mother fled with the child to Canada to protect her from further abuse. They were found after 11/2 years and the mother was put in jail. The child was forced to live with her identified perpetrator and did not see her mother for six years. She is currently being treated for suicide attempts and alcoholism.
These two boys were taken from their mother and given to their father when they were 12 and 15 years old, after they reported that their father abused them and threatened suicide. The father had brutally abused the mother during the marriage. When the boys asked their mother to motion the court to remove their court-appointed attorney who was threatening them, the judge gave guardianship of the boys to that attorney. The children protested being removed from their mother, pleaded with the judge and evaluator, refused to get on the airplane to be sent to another state, and were forced to go to live with the father. The younger child ran away from his father’s home and cannot be found.
These three children reported sexual molestation by the father to numerous professionals. Physical evidence of the abuse was found for all three, and the children had psychological symptoms of nightmares, school phobias, eating disorders, and suicidal ideation. Both parents have equal time with the children due to evaluator recommendations.
In 1996 this 3 ½ year old child, who lived in the custody of her mother, stated she was being touched by her father inappropriately during visits. The recommendation from the mediator was to have supervised visits, but the evaluator denied the molest, did not gather evidence, misquoted parties, and recommended 50/50 custody. The child again disclosed molest. When the judge still refused to provide supervised visits, CPS in another county took the child into protective custody and supervised visits were ordered. However, Sacramento County took jurisdiction and the evaluator said the mother had Parent Alienation. The judge forced both the girl and her brother to live with their father, despite ordering the father to attend anger control classes.
This little boy had speech problems, frequent ear infections and leg pains, nightmares, enuresis, fears and phobias. The mother divorced the physician father (who was in treatment for addiction to pornography) due to his violence and alcohol abuse. During the divorce proceedings, a custody evaluation report was written which the mother was not allowed to see. The father demanded custody of the child. The mother’s attorney said she would lose all parental rights if she did not accede to the demand. She acceded and the child is now allowed to see his non-offending mother only under supervised conditions, despite the child’s statements that his father abuses him.
This child reported sexual abuse by the father to numerous professionals. The child had medical and psychological evidence of sexual abuse, yet was required to visit the father unsupervised, due to evaluator’s recommendations.

San Bernardino County
In 1993 this child’s mother divorced her father due to his physical abuse of the child. After a visit with her father, the child reported physical and sexual abuse. There was medical evidence of genital warts, bruises and welts. In 1995 after an evaluation, the mother was ordered to bring the child to court. The court forced the child to live with her identified perpetrator father. After the evaluation was overturned in a peer review, the child was placed half time with her mother. The evaluator did another report in 1997, and again recommended the child be placed with her father. After the child told her mother that she wanted to commit suicide, she was not allowed to see her mother at all. Now she may see her non-offending mother only with a court monitor present.
Born in 1989, this child was placed in the custody of his mother when he was 20 months old. His father had physically abused his mother for 9 years. The child returned from visits with the father with bruises, black eyes, a raw penis, headaches, ear aches, stomach aches and throat infections. At age 4, he had sexualize behavior, masturbation, nightmares, night terrors, enuresis, depression, dissociation, insomnia, nausea, and attention problems. The child tried to jump out of a moving car when he had to return to his father. The evaluator ignored hospital reports and police reports. The court gave full custody to the father in 1995, despite the child’s stated desire to stay with his mother. Four months later he again disclosed sexual abuse to 12 professionals and 3 CPS workers. Nevertheless, the court forced him to remain in his father’s custody, and has denied him any visits with his mother. The mother is now bankrupt.
These seven and ten year old children reported physical and sexual abuse by father. The father received full custody and mother is on supervised visits once per week when she can afford it.
San Diego County
Born in 1987, this child reported sexual abuse to his pediatrician when he was six years old. He had sexualized behavior, fears of his mother dying, depression, flashbacks, physical pains, headaches, insomnia, and stomach aches. He has a medical condition called Williams Syndrome in which his body ages rapidly, but he is younger in many ways than his biological age. In 1988 he and his mother had moved to a battered woman’s shelter due to violence in the home. He stated he wanted to live with his mother, a teacher. Instead he is forced by the court to live with his violent father who had been convicted of DUI and stealing, and is permanently disabled with mental disability. The father moved the child to another state, and sees his mother only a few times per year. The child’s attorney did not represent the child’s wishes.
After a short marriage this child’s parents separated in 1986. Custody of the one year old child was given to the mother. He returned from visits with the father with genital irritation. At age 2 ½ he disclosed genital touching by the father, and at age 3 ½ he displayed sexually precocious behavior to a therapist, and a deep bruise on his genitals. An evaluation was ordered. The evaluator recommended full custody to the father. The mother left the state with the child to protect him from further abuse. 1 ½ years later the mother and child were apprehended. Both old and new abuse evidence was suppressed in court, through the efforts of a social worker. Although there was medical evidence of sexual abuse and evidence of abuse by the father from another victim, full custody was given to the father and the mother was placed on supervised visits. The child continued to disclose abuse. The father moved to another state, and the mother’s visits have been thwarted.
In 1993 this three year old child began to reveal she was sexually abused by her father. The family court refused to consider any evidence of sexual abuse and ordered “molest cannot be an issue in this case”. Unsupervised visits, and later temporary custody with the father, were ordered in 1994. An evaluator recommended that the child be removed from the mother’s house due to “severe parental alienation.” The mother was placed on supervised visits, and is now allowed weekends with the child. The evidence of molest is overwhelming, as testified to by 3 psychologists, a police investigator, an expert in child sexual abuse allegations, tape recordings of the child’s disclosures, sexual acting out, photographs of the father naked with the child on his lap, and medical evidence of labial adhesions. . The attorney for the child does not listen to the child’s wants, but indicates he is doing what is “best” for the child. The police determined probable cause, but the District Attorney declined to prosecute the father. This child ran away from her father’s home.
San Luis Obispo County
Born in 1994, this child disclosed that he was being molested by his father when he was nine years old. He told counselors, CPS, and police, and had symptoms of nightmares, night terrors, enuresis and encopresis, excessive fears of men and anger, sexualized behavior, depression, suicide attempt, eating disorder, dissociation, intense anger, flashbacks, physical pains, headaches, insomnia, nausea, diarrhea, constipation, stomach aches. Despite this, the child was taken away from his safe mother and forced to live with his identified perpetrator. He has only been allowed to see his mother a few times with a therapist. The child’s attorney did not represent the child’s wishes. The mother has since died.
A raft of documents was released last year showing former Prime Minister Maggie Thatcher’s dealings with Savile.
But Whitehall mandarins ordered key paragraphs to be blanked out to save people’s blushes.
We challenged that ruling under Freedom Of Information laws and were initially turned down.
It was only after a further appeal, when we said it was in the public interest to expose what Thatcher and her officials were discussing, that the information was finally released last week.
It shows Savile claimed Prince Charles had agreed to be a patron of one of his charities – and, crucially, last year someone in power had decided we shouldn’t know that fact, despite it being common knowledge that the Prince and weirdo Savile were pals.
Officials at the National Archive, which houses the documents, last night blamed the Cabinet Office, under the control of Cabinet Secretary Sir Jeremy Heywood, for redacting the documents.
The cover-up concerned Savile asking Prince Charles to be patron of his Stoke Mandeville appeal.
The letter to Thatcher from one of her aides reads: “Even more encouraging, though again confidential at this stage, Jimmy Savile tells me that the Prince of Wales has agreed to be Patron of the Appeal.”
The nugget was contained in a one page letter headed PRIME MINISTER dated March 6, 1980, and initialled G.V.
The letter was part of a Savile file released under the 30-year rule by the National Archives at Kew, south-west London, last year.
It included pervert Savile declaring his love for the former PM, showing how well connected he was to establishment figures.
A National Archives official explained the Charles paragraph was excluded under sections 40 and 41.
Section 40 refers to information that it would breach the Data Protection Act to reveal that that person would have a “legitimate expectation” that the information would remain private.
Section 41 covers information that was given in confidence.
Two documents in the dossier are still being covered up and will stay secret for 40 years after a ruling last October when claims about Savile began to emerge.
One, misspelling Savile’s name, is described as “Letter from Jimmy Saville to Prime Minister (undated).”
The other is “Telephone message from Jimmy Savile” dated February 5, 1980.
Last night it was still unclear whose blushes were being spared by those sections remaining blanked out.
Freedom of information campaigners have criticised officials for misusing the rules to keep information secret.
Maurice Frankel, director of the Campaign For Freedom Of Information, said: “They often use these sections to protect the identity of people who are actually players in the decision-making process who ought to be identified.
"Sometimes people haven’t behaved properly and shouldn’t have any expectation of having their identity protected. If you persist, you can succeed in overturning these decisions.”
Former Top Of The Pops presenter Savile was a fundraiser for Stoke Mandeville hospital in Buckinghamshire, where he also preyed on young patients.
One paralysed woman said Savile abused her when she was 13 and recovering in the children’s ward in 1971.
Nurses even warned youngsters “pretend to be asleep” when he visited.
The hospital launched its own inquiry after a catalogue of attacks was revealed across the country, dating back to 1955.
Savile was also allowed in and out of Charles’ residence St James’ Palace when he acted as a marriage guidance counsellor for Charles and Diana.
Charles, who led tributes when Savile died, aged 84, in October 2011, had sent him cigars and gold cufflinks on his 80th birthday.
A note with the gifts read: “Nobody will ever know what you have done for this country, Jimmy. This is to go some way in thanking you for that.”

WHY HAS PRINCE ANDREW BEEN LINKED TO THE CASE? THE HISTORY BEHIND THE LEGAL MOTION The Duke of York has been named in a document handed to the Florida court this week in connection with an ongoing lawsuit by two other women who claim they were abused by Jeffrey Epstein. The multi-millionaire was convicted of sex offences in 2008 after a plea deal which saw him serve 13 months of an 18 month prison sentence.
But two women who say they were abused by him, known as Jane Doe 1 and Jane Doe 2, said their rights have been violated because they were not consulted before the deal was done and they began suing U.S. prosecutors over their handling of the case six years ago. Today it was revealed that Jane Doe 3, who has named Prince Andrew, and another woman named as Jane Doe 4, say they have been violated in the same way and want to join the group action.
The royal and Epstein were friends and were seen together in Central Park, New York in 2011 after the financier’s conviction, which came in the wake of an FBI investigation into his associations with underage girls, especially in Florida, where he maintains a home. ‘Jane Doe 3’, who is now an adult, claims that she was groomed on behalf of Epstein by Maxwell – daughter of Robert Maxwell, the disgraced newspaper owner - when she was just 15 and forced into a world of sexual abuse. It included being ‘forced to have sexual relations with… Prince [Andrew] when she was a minor in London at Ghislaine Maxwell’s apartment, in New York, and on Epstein’s private island in the U.S. Virgin Islands in an orgy with numerous other under-aged girls’, she claimed in documents submitted this week to federal court in Palm Beach, Florida.

The Abel and Harlow Child Molestation Prevention Study analyzed 4007 adults, ages 18-95, who admitted they had sexually abused one or several children. Special attention was given to finding information that could be used to reduce the number of children assaulted in this manner. The authors, defined words using the medical criteria of the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th edition.

Talking about the sexual molestation of children is never easy, but our collective silence punctuated only by media exposés contributes to its perpetuation. If there is to be healing, the victimizing climate of secrecy and retribution must give way to one of open prevention. In their 2001 book, authors, Gene Abel, M.D., and Nora Harlow, offer a straightforward approach to this transition.

Legendary rock-and-roll radio deejay D H has been arrested for allegedly attempting to transport a 7-year-old New Jersey girl to the Virgin Islands with the intent of having sex with her.
D H, who is locally well-known as the former host of the “D H Rock and Roll Show,” was arrested Thursday at the St. Croix airport, according to New Jersey’s U.S. Attorney. The 77-year-old will appear Friday in St. Croix’s federal court.
The ex-radio jock was brought into custody after a year-long sting operation that began with him chatting an undercover officer online. Throughout their conversation, D H believed himself to be communicating with a 36-year-old single mother with a 6-year-old daughter.
According to reports, D H had multiple phone and online conversations with the undercover officer, often indicating his desire to engage in sexual activity with the fictitious child. He reportedly attempted to arrange for sexual encounters with the child in New York and Northern Jersey before instead opting to set up a liaison in St. Croix.
If convicted, D H faces a minimum of 10 years and a maximum of life in prison.

Statement of William Arnold Combes.
I am an Interior Salish spirit dancer and am 58 years old. I live in Vancouver, Canada.
I am a survivor of the Kamloops and Mission Indian residential schools, both run by the Roman Catholic church. I suffered terrible tortures there at the hands especially of Brother Murphy, who killed at least two children. I witnessed him throw a child off a three story balcony to her death. He put me on a rack and broke some of my bones, in the Kamloops school basement, after I tried running away.
I also saw him and another priest burying a child in the school orchard one night.
In September 1964 when I was 12 years old, I was an inmate at the Kamloops school and we were visited by the Queen of England and Prince Phillip. I remember it was strange because they came by themselves, no big fanfare or nothing. But I recognized them and the school principal told us it was the Queen and we all got given new clothes and good food for the first time in months the day before she arrived.
The day she got to the school, I was part of a group of kids that went on a picnic with the Queen and her husband and school officials, down to a meadow near Dead Man’s Creek. After awhile, I saw the Queen leave that picnic with ten children from the school, and those children never returned. We never heard anything more about them and never saw them again even when we were older. They were all from around there but they all vanished.
The group that disappeared was seven boys and three girls, in age from six to fourteen years old. I don’t remember their names, just an occasional first name like Cecilia and there was an Edward.
What happened was also witnessed by my friend George Adolph, who was 11 years old at the time and a student there too

This Public Letter of Demand is issued to you, Elizabeth Windsor, as one who claims the title and fiduciary responsibility of Queen of Great Britain and the Commonwealth, and Head of the Church of England in Canada, aka the Anglican Church.
We, as the friends and relatives of tens of thousands of children who died or were murdered in Indian Resedential Schools in canada established and run by your Church of England and the British Crown from 1867 to 1996, do hereby demand that you, Elizabeth Windsor, in your capacity of Queen of Great Britain and the Commonwealth, and head of the Church of England, publicly disclose the cause of death and whereabouts of the buried remains, of all children who died in Indian Residential Schools operated by the Church of England in Canada, aka the Anglican Church.
This Common law Notice also requires that you, Elizabeth Windsor. arrange the immediate repatriation without conditions of the remains of thesen persons to their holes for a proper burial.
This Common Law Notice also requires that you, Elizabeth Windsor, publicly name and surrender all persons in or employed by the Government of Canada and the Anglican Church who are responsible for or complicit in these deaths and disappearances, and all documents and evidence related to the same.

Queen of England Issued a Letter of Demand, Possible Lawsuit by Indian Residential School Survivors
from Unceded Squamish Territory (“Vancouver, Canada”)
Elizabeth Windsor, the Queen of England, was issued a Letter of Demand that requires that she identify the fate and burial sites of all the children who died in Indian Residential Schools established under the authority of the Church of England and the British Crown.
The Letter was handed personally to Governor-General Michaelle Jean by aboriginal elder Carol Martin at the Downtown Eastside Womens’ Centre in Vancouver in the afternoon of Wednesday, January 23. Ms. Martin asked the Governor-General to deliver the Letter of Demand to the Queen on behalf of residential school survivors, and the Governor-General accepted the Letter and assured her that she would.
As a Common Law Notice, the Letter requires that the Queen comply with the request to identify the grave sites and cause of death of these children within thirty days, or face possible legal action.
“The buck stops at Buckingham Palace” commented another aboriginal elder and residential school survivor. “The Queen, and the Pope, are the ones responsible for the genocide their government and churches did to my people. She has to be held accountable. She has the power to help bring our children home, finally.”
In recent weeks, similar Letters of Demand have been issued to officials of the Canadian government and the Catholic, Anglican and United Church of Canada by residential school survivors. Karl Ratzinger, Pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church, is scheduled to be issued a similar Letter of Demand soon.

the unfortunate fact is, my family and culture has been devastated by institutionalized sexual abuse on an epic scale. the residential school scandal has deeply scarred generations.

Indian Residential School Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada The TRC is a component of the Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement. Its mandate is to inform all Canadians about what happened in Indian Residential Schools (IRS). The Truth and Reconciliation Commission has established “The Missing Children Project” to assemble the names of children who died, how they died, and where they were buried. The list of names will be contained in a registry available to the public. “Aboriginal kids’ lives just didn’t seem as worthy as non-aboriginal kids,” Kimberly Murray, executive director of the commission, said in an interview. native american religion and child sexual abuse are walking hand in hand these days.
so there is a lot of spiritual healing and forgiveness going on between the first nations community and the canadian public, which has revived some of the old rituals and beliefs. things like sweat lodges, potlatches and powwows are regaining status and popularity. elders are being honoured. ancient stories are being retold. lost languages are being learned.
my wife has been directly involved in the "Truth and Reconciliation Commission" project for the past few years. she is still connected with her cree heritage. i am alienated from my stó:lo roots. zero contact.
although i have done some experimenting in experiences, my knowledge of native american religion is very general and academic.
i have been mainly interested in the pre-Columbian societies.
as mentioned above by melliferal, there are many nations in the americas, and there are many overlapping and contrary belief systems. for example, the aztec religion was notorious for human sacrifice, but the hopis were renowned for their nonviolence. some natives believed in alien gods from other stars. some believed in spirits in the wind. some believed the gods lived underground. you can find anything you want.
native americans are no different than the rest of the world. no better. no worse. we are all different from each other individually. we are all the same. no two agree.
there was good and evil here long before the europeans ever arrived. it is the human condition.

In his autobiography My Life Is My Sun Dance, Leonard explains that his bloodline is mainly Ojibway and Dakota Sioux and that he was adopted by the Lakota Sioux and raised on their reservations “in the land known to you as America....but I don’t consider myself an American.”
“I know what I am. I am an Indian--an Indian who dared to stand up to defend his people. I am an innocent man who never murdered anyone nor wanted to. And, yes, I am a Sun Dancer. That, too, is my identity. If I am to suffer as a symbol of my people, then I suffer proudly. I will never yield.”
Leonard tells us that when he was nine years old a big black government car drove up to his house to take him and the other kids away to the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) boarding school in Wahpeton, Dakota del Norte. When they got there, they cut off their long hair, stripped them, and doused them with DDT powder.
“I thought I was going to die...that place...was more like a reformatory than a school...I consider my years at Wahpenton my first imprisonment, and it was for the same crime as all the others: being an Indian.”
He goes on to say that “We had to speak English. We were beaten if we were caught speaking our own language. Still, we did....I guess that’s where I became a “hardened criminal,” as the FBI calls me. And you could say that the first infraction in my criminal career was speaking my own language. There’s an act of violence for you....The second was practicing our traditional religion.”

An engrossing silent film study of the Ojibway Indian's struggle for food before the coming of Columbus was presented last night by William Douglas Burden and William C. Chanler before a brilliant and enthusiastic gathering in the Criterion. This production, known as "The Silent Enemy," was photographed in the wilds of Northern Ontario, the scenes having been directed by H. P. Carver from a story written by Mr. Burden.
Throughout its course it bears the stamp of sincerity and authenticity. When there are fights between various animals, the killing of beasts, or the spearing of fish, there are no camera tricks. The comedians of the picture are two bear cubs and their antics afforded plenty of laughter last night. The cast is composed of Indians, Chief Long Lance, figuring as the heroic hunter, and Chief Akawansh impersonating the sinister Medicine Man.
Not only is there a generous supply of fun in this cleverly arranged film but there are a number of thrilling episodes, notably one in which a mountain lion is seen in a fight with the comic bear cubs. The little animals at first elicit sympathy, for the lion looks far more dangerous and able to take care of half a dozen bears. But, to the amazement of the audience last night, it was the lion who needed sympathy, for the young bears showed that they were well equipped to give the lion more than he bargained for.
This sequence is amazingly photographed, with every action of the snarling animals open to view. The bears appear to slap the lion with their claws and they see to it that the lion gets the full benefit of a few second's rest, which the cubs take during the struggle.
Another animal tussle that is surprising is that between a giant moose and three or four wolves. One expects that the wolves will leap on the back of the larger animal, but they never have the opportunity, for the moose burrows into his antagonists, rolling them over and scattering them. It almost seems as though the moose had earned his right to live, but Baluk (Chief Long Lance) spears the big animal, after being bowled over himself.
This epic of the redskin of old is filled with surprises from the instant a boy called Cheeka is perceived cooly spearing a fish. Soon afterward, Neewa, Cheeka's sister, catches a bird with a loop at the end of a long rod.
"The Silent Enemy" is hunger, and the Indians reveal in many stretches of this production that they must kill to eat. The only two animals that are spared are the bear cubs, which nobody wants to see hurt.
Marcel Le Picard deserves great praise for the effective photography. There are wondrously beautiful scenes of the wilds, in the Autumn with placid waters and gurgling rapids and later in the wintry snows, with long shadows adding to the effect. The manner in which some of the episodes are portrayed is reminiscent of "Grass," for these Ojibways are perceived leaving their usual hunting grounds for richer regions, because of fear of a famine, which is said to happen every seven years.
The producers have mingled humor with drama adroitly and right in the very beginning with "shots" of canoes dancing over the surging rapids, there is the sight of the bear cubs being flung from Cheeka's canoe into the water.
The climax, however, is more impressive than all the other scenes. It is something more stirring than has been seen in any other picture of this ilk. It is when the caribou herd comes into view. First it is like a cloud, moving along with a few straggling ends. It almost seems impossible that this can be a mass of animals, but such it is and with all the pictures of cattle that have been seen in many years this sight has never been equaled. The caribou gallop along, huddled together, a target for the arrows of the redskins eager for food. It is to them meat sent by the Great Spirit. Arrows pierce animals here and there and one caribou after another falls. This is an unforgettable series of scenes.
The story is a simple one, the hunter Baluk being the primitive hero and Dagwan, the medicine man, being the designing individual who is eager to have as his squaw Chief Chetoga's daughter, Neewa, admirably played by an Indian girl named Spotted Elk. Baluk in the end proves that he was right in leaving the old hunting ground, but in the meantime Chief Chetoga feels forced to undergo the torture of submitting himself to the elements for days on end. And even before the coming of the caribou herd things look dark for Baluk.
This picture is prefaced by a Movietone talk from old Chief Yellow Robe, who acts the part of Chetoga, in which he tells of the making of the film and its theme. It took a year to photograph the scenes of this picture, in which about 100 Indians play a part. It took another year to cut and assemble the 25,000 feet of negative to the 8,000 feet exhibited last night.
Chief Long Lance was a student at Carlisle. He was appointed to West Point, but when he had been there a year he joined the Canadian forces as a private and emerged from the World War a Captain. He serves this picture commendably—aye, courageously. He is said to have actually killed the bull moose. It is also set forth in the program that the boy Cheeka was run over by the herd of stampeding caribou.
The performances of the other Indians are all remarkably natural. Some of them had never beheld a motion picture camera until they found themselves acting before one.
The tough, muscular characters in Lee Tamahori's ferocious "Once Were Warriors" are primed for fighting. And they need no battlefield: their hostilities are played out in the bedroom, in front of the children or in crowded bars. In his visceral first feature, Mr. Tamahori offers social realism with a savage kick, depicting Maori New Zealanders whose ties to their own history have been destroyed. Left floundering in an inhospitable urban world, they have lost touch with their tribal past to become part of a rootless global subculture. The misery seen here would be familiar anywhere.
Having said he hoped to make a film that would stand viewers' hair on end, Mr. Tamahori fully realizes that goal. "Once Were Warriors," a tale of vicious brawls within the family of Beth Heke (Rena Owen) and her belligerent husband, Jake (Temuera Morrison), is a brutally effective family drama. Rough around the edges and crudely obvious at times, it still presents a raw, disturbing story of domestic strife. Only when he tries to look on the bright side does Mr. Tamahori sound false notes.
Both this film's stars are frighteningly credible, in part because they both look like pure sinew and brawn. Beth has long tied herself to a violently abusive husband, but "Once Were Warriors" makes it clear that she is not simply a victim. Ms. Owen, a fiery actress with the sad, sensual look of a hard-knocks Jeanne Moreau, radiates a physical vitality that makes sense of this union. Against her better judgment, Beth falls for Jake's swagger even while she recoils from his bullying cruelty.
Jake sports the tattoos, black leather and heavy musculature that make most of the film's characters resemble members of a biker gang. There's something poignant about their need to dress interchangeably and look fierce in this way. The film's male characters are drawn together in boozy solidarity, grasping for the collective identity that vanished with their Maori tribal life. When Jake brings home his drunken buddies for middle-of-the-night parties in the Heke household, the revelers sing together as if they were gathered around a campfire, wishing for a fellowship that no longer exists in their everyday lives.
Behavior within this group is ritualized and sharply divided along male and female lines. While the men brawl heartily and glower at their women, the women are meant to stand by admiringly and gossip about the men's sexual prowess. When we first see her, Beth still accepts these ground rules, however grudgingly. "You're a hard lady," Jake tells her, delivering what sounds like the highest compliment of which he's capable.
"You're a hard man, Jakey," she replies.
"Once Were Warriors" begins with the sharp contrast of an idyllic New Zealand landscape -- which turns out to be a billboard -- and the gray, crumbling reality of the film's actual setting. It is no less startling in first showing how violently Jake's mean streak contrasts with his physical appeal. As a late-night party disintegrates, Jake hauls off and punches Beth's face, beating her so badly that she doesn't dare attend a court hearing the next morning. One of the Hekes' five children winds up in a state institution after that. All of them know the kind of battering their mother has regularly endured.
Adapted by Riwia Brown from a less optimistic novel by Alan Duff, and shifting the story's emphasis from Jake to Beth, "Once Were Warriors" uses the Heke children to show the toll taken by their parents' problems. An elder son finds solace with an ornately tattooed leather gang, which has a family's closeness and a steelier sense of identity than Jake's sodden crowd; a younger boy, sent to that state home, regains some sense of Maori pride when he's away from his father. Grace (the gentle, affecting Mamaengaroa Kerr-Bell), the family's teen-age daughter, suffers in ways she won't describe even to her best friend, a homeless boy who lives in an abandoned car.
It takes her children's unhappiness to make Beth take a hard look at her life, which leads "Once Were Warriors" to some easy grandstanding. The title, from a line about the Maori past, comes from a speech patently constructed to make audiences cheer. That's part of what has made "Once Were Warriors" the most popular film in New Zealand's history, but Mr. Tamahori isn't often this facile. The film works not only for its pitiless depiction of these characters' unhappy lives, but also for its genuinely poignant idea of how their collective destiny has gone astray.
Director, stars and writers all come from backgrounds that are at least part Maori, and together they create a powerful sense of longing. Except for small roles in "Rapa Nui" and slight connections to "The Piano," none of these principals are familiar here, which makes the film's furiously energetic performances seem that much more intense.
Mr. Morrison is actually well known in New Zealand for playing a nice-guy doctor on a soap opera. But here he becomes a wildly dangerous presence, a tortured man whose only means of addressing his own pain is in hurting others. Matching Ms. Owen's volatile intensity, he turns Jake's rage into something much angrier than the product of one man's foul temper.

The apostle Peter was concerned that Christians could not or would not defend their beliefs about Christ and about Christian living. He knew Christians in every age would encounter opposition in their devotion to the cause of Christ. He urged them: "But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man who asks you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear" (1 Pet. 3:15). I must ask each of us: "Do we have the knowledge and the courage to tell our friends, neighbors and family members why we believe the Bible to be the word of almighty God, what people must do to become members of the New Testament church and our reasons for supporting the moral values the scriptures teach? Can we give a Bible answer for the kind of government the church must have and the worship God demands in the Christian era.
Edmund Burke served in Great Britain's parliament from 1765 until his death in 1797. The World Book Encyclopedia (Chicago: Field Enterprises Educational Corporation, 1966) says "Burke never hesitated to speak his mind on the major issues of his time" (volume 2, p. 593). Burke's brilliant and appropriate observation has provided great inspiration to men and women to change our world for the better. Over and over, Burke's words appear in volumes dealing with a Christian's obligation to oppose evil of all kinds, including gambling, beverage alcohol, sexual immorality and pornography.
Cornelius Plantinga, Jr.'s book, Beyond Doubt: Faith-Building on Questions Christians Ask (GrandRapids: William B. Eerdmans Publishing Comnpany, 2002), discusses at some length the impact Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. had on our nation. He quotes these powerful word from one of Dr. King's speeches: "I fear the silence of the churches more that the shouts of angry multitudes." Dr. Plantinga offers the following prayer: "0 Lord our God, we confess the cowardice that has so often silenced us in the face of evil." He prayed that we might be bold in declaring God's justice in all the reaches of our lives (p. 167).
The apostle Paul wrote of the great abuse he had experienced as a gospel preacher. "We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair: persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed." Such opposition from God's enemies would have silenced many professed Christians of Paul's generation and no doubt does silence many in our day. But only death could keep Paul from preaching what he believed. He explains: "But having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore I have spoken; we also believe, and therefore we speak" (2 Cor. 4:8-9, 13). Paul was addressing his responsibility to preach Christ Jesus the Lord as the Savior of the world, but his words apply to every phase of our lives, including our obligation to discuss all spiritual and moral issues. If we believe abortion, pornography, homosexuality, gambling, using beverage alcohol and other drugs are contrary to the will of God, can we remain silent without bringing the curses of God on our heads?
In 2002, the International Gospel Hour published my book, Silence Can Be Sinful. My book has done very well for the Gospel Hour. In fact, we have just republished it a few weeks ago. My book has chapters on abortion, hate groups in America, civil disobedience, gambling, psychic detectives, destructive businesses and homosexuality. If the Lord allows me to live long enough, I plan to publish four more books on the same topic. I am convinced, as I emphasized in my book, that failure to speak out against evil—all evil—is sinful. I agree with someone who wisely observed: "Silence can be golden, but sometimes it is just plain yellow."
Several months ago, I received a letter regarding my book, Silence Can Be Sinful. My correspondent's letter begins: "I want to say that I enjoyed your book, Silence Can Be Sinful, but one thing I would like to clear up. In your first chapter, you said that 'Christians may also sin by being silent. Are you saying that a Christian is 'anti' because they are silent all the time? Well, I want you to know that that is not true. Please know that I am not mad or anything like it, but silence is part of God's word.'" I am grateful for the letter. I shall make myself as clear as I am able.
I know that "silence is part of God's word"—a truth I have preached for more than sixty years. I have time to give you just one example. The Mosaic covenant required that priests come from the tribe of Levi. But since the Old Testament did not say, "You shall not select priests from Simeon or Judah or Benjamin," what could possibly be wrong with choosing priests from those tribes? After all, according to Korah, Dathan and Abiram, men from the tribe of Reuben were just as holy as men from Levi (Lev. 16:1-3). Those three rebels must have reasoned like many modern theologians: "Since God was silent on whether priests could come from tribes other than Levi, it must have been all right to have them from other tribes.” Does the silence of the Old Testament concerning the other tribes mean that God opposed having priests from Reuben or Judah or Benjamin?
The author of Hebrews discusses the principle of silence I am discussing with you. He argues very plainly: "For the priesthood being changed, it is made of necessity a change in the law also. For he of whom these things are spoken pertains to another tribe, of which no man gave attendance at the altar" (Heb. 7:12-13). The "he of whom these things were spoken" was Jesus Christ. Does the author of Hebrews mean that Christ could not have been a priest under the Jewish covenant because he came from the wrong tribe? If you have any doubt about that, the inspired author of Hebrews should settle that doubt forever. Please listen carefully. "For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Judah: of which tribe Moses spoke nothing concerning the priesthood" (Heb. 7:14). Since Moses said nothing about priests' coming from the tribe of Judah, what could possibly be wrong with having priests from that tribe? Is the author of Hebrews arguing that we must respect the silence of the scriptures? In other words, if God does not authorize an act of worship, we have no scriptural right to practice it. That is the reason faithful churches of Christ do not use mechanical instruments of music in the worship of the church. That is also the reason we do not observe the sabbath and engage in the burning of incense and such like. There is absolutely no scriptural authority for these practices.
But is God so picky that he will not approve of such insignificant activities? What lesson did God intend to teach by including in the Old Testament the story of Nadab and Abihu? These two men were the sons of the Aaron, the older brother of Moses, and the very first high priest in Israel. Moses accused them of offering strange fire on the altar. And what was "strange fire?" The King James Version identifies "strange fire" as fire that the Lord commanded not (Lev. 10:1). The English Standard Version calls it "unauthorized fire." But surely the Lord would not punish Nadab and Abihu for offering "unauthorized fire," that is, fire concerning which the Lord was silent, or would he? Moses explains what occurred: "And there went out fire from the Lord, and devoured them, and they died before the Lord" (Lev. 10:2). Failure to honor the silence of the scriptures is a serious offense against God, as the story of Nadab and Abihu teaches.
I have been preaching and lecturing for many years on the topic, "Silence Can Be Sinful." But I am not alone in speaking on that and similar topics. In 2001 Tom Minnery, vice president of Public Policy for Focus on the Family, wrote a book with the title, Why You Can't Stay Silent: A Biblical Mandate to Shape Our Culture (Wheaton: Tyndale House Publishers, Inc.). Ken Connor and John Revell wrote an excellent book with the title, Sinful Silence: When Christians Neglect Their Civic Duty (Nashville: Ginosko Publishing Co., 2004). One brief paragraph from this book gives insight into what the authors are trying to accomplish. "When God's people know His basic moral standards for civil government, and when they have the legal opportunity to influence their civil leaders accordingly, and when they fail to do so (resulting in rampant civil sin), they themselves sin" (p. 40). Rod Parsley's book, Silent No More: Bringing Moral Clarity to America... While Freedom Still Rings (Lake Mary, FL: 2005), quotes Elie Wiesel, the famous holocaust survivor, as saying, "I swore never to be silent whenever and wherever human beings endure suffering and humiliation." He also quotes Winston Churchill as affirming: "When the eagles are silent, the parrots begin to jabber" (p. xiii). I mention these three books to show that I am not too far out in left field. Silence in the face of great evil is cowardice.
In a number of books I have read since the publication of my book, I have taken special note of other authors' concerns about the silence of good people. I shall mention some of those books and what they say about the sinfulness of silence. Vivien Spitz, the youngest court reporter at the Nuremburg trials in Germany, has recently published a book with the title, Doctors from Hell: The Horrific Account of Nazi Experiments on Humans (Boulder, CO: Sentient Publications, 2005). In the dedication of the book, Spitz observes: "In genocides there are perpetrators. There are victims. There are silent bystanders." She asks, "What is the culpability of the silent bystander who is indifferent to evil" (p. 6)? She quotes Mr. Justice Robert H. Jackson as saying, "The wrong which we seek to condemn and punish have been so calculated, so malignant, and so devastating, that civilization cannot tolerate their being ignored because it cannot survive their being repeated" (p. 293). Elwood McQuaid's book, Persecuted: Exposing the Growing Intolerance Toward Christianity (Eugene, OR: Harvest House Publishers, 2003), writes of the terrible persecution professed Christians suffer in the Sudan. He explains that the Sudan "stands as a primary horror story of the persecution of Christians." Yet, according to McQuaid, "relatively little has been said about it in the media or political circles." He asks, "Why are Christians, and in particular American evangelicals, silent, indifferent, or uninformed regarding this devastating scourge on fellow believers" (p.68)? McQuaid has an entire chapter devoted to the question, "But why the silence?" He asks, "While the blood of the saints is wetting the earth on so many fronts the world over, why the deafening silence coming from both camps" (p. 123)? By the expression, "both camps," McQuaid means the older generation and the younger generation.
Dick Morris, a well-known political consultant and an analyst for Fox New Channel, has written a number of books on political and social themes. One of his books, Off With Their Heads: Traitors, Crooks and Obstructionists in American Politics, Media & Business (New York: Regan Books, 2003), expresses great concern about the political and social situation in our nation. He quotes David Clennon, star of the CBS series The Agency as affirming, "The moral climate within the ruling class in this country is not that different from the moral climate within the ruling class of Hitler's Germany" (p. 136). Dick Morris asks, "Why don't the viewers of The Agency deluge CBS with protests and force this man who doesn't know the difference between Bush and Hitler off the air? Why do they remain silent and let him get away with this kind of outrageous comparison" (p. 138)?
In the Introduction to my book, Silence Can Be Sinful, I list and discuss briefly some of the excuses Americans give for not speaking out against the evils that are destroying so many lives. I shall list those excuses and examine each one. It is not unusual for someone to argue: "I would speak out on abortion, gambling, pornography, beverage alcohol and homosexuality if I just knew what to say." Jane Chastain, America's first woman sports broadcaster, has written an excellent book with the title, I'd Speak Out on the Issues: If I Only Knew What to Say (Ventura, CA: Regal Books, 1987). Chastain furnishes a number of valuable suggestions regarding every Christian's responsibility to be informed and to use our voices in making a difference in our world. Following are some of the chapter headings in her book: "Do I Dare Get Involved?", "How Do I Get Started?", "Can One Person Make a Difference?" Unless we make an effort to oppose evil and to support good, our nation will continue to deteriorate morally and spiritually. God will hold us accountable for failure to speak for God and against Satan.
There really is no excuse for not knowing what is occurring in our world. For example, if you want to speak out against gambling, numerous good books exposing the stupidity of gambling are readily available. Larry Braidfoot has a law degree and a Ph.D. in Christian ethics. He has testified before congressional committees in several states that were thinking of legalizing gambling. His book, Gambling: A Deadly Game (Nashville: Broadman Press, 1985), is one of the very best on that topic I have ever found. Norman Geisler with Thomas A. Howe published an excellent book with the title, Gambling: A Bad Bet (Old Tappan: Fleming H. Revell Company, 1990). Ignorance is not an excuse for not speaking out on evil.
Tragically, there are people and there always have been who just do not care enough to use their time and talent to oppose the destructive practices that prevail in our nation. Isaiah, the eighth century B. C. prophet in Israel, describes some of the conditions that prevailed among the Israelites about 150 years before the Babylonian exile. "Woe unto them who rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that continue until night, till wine inflame them! And the harp, and the viol, the tabret, and pipe, and wine, are in their feasts: but they regard not the work of the Lord, neither consider the work of his hands.... Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight! Woe unto them who are mighty to drink wine: who justify the wicked for reward; and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him" (Isa. 5:11-12, 21-23)!
Were the Israelites not concerned about the moral situation in Israel? God commanded Isaiah: "Now go, write it before them in a tablet, and note it in a book, that it may be for the time to come forever and ever; that this is a rebellious people, lying children, children who will not hear the law of the Lord: who say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things (or pleasant things), prophesy unto us deceits (or illusions): get out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One in Israel to cease from before us" (Isa. 30:8-11). Has not the prophet Isaiah well described the so-called "positive thinkers" of our day?
One the chief reasons many in our day—including some who call themselves "Christians"—remain silent is because they are thoroughly confused about right and wrong. Did you know, for example, that the majority of Americans do not believe there are any absolutes? If there are no absolutes, then nobody has absolute authority to condemn any kind of behavior. The ethical confusion in some modern churches— including some left-leaning churches of Christ—reminds us of the tragic conditions in Isaiah's day (about 750 years before our Lord was born). Isaiah wrote: "Woe unto them who call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put sweet for bitter, and bitter for sweet" (Isa. 5:20)!
Moral turpitude prevents some in our day from speaking out against modern sins. There are millions of Americans who are not going to speak out against ungodly and destructive behavior because they are addicted to pornography or to beverage alcohol or to sexual immorality. When men and women engage in immoral activities—either for pleasure or for profit—they seldom, if ever, join in crusades to curb those activities. Do not Christians sin when they remain silent on immorality?
Finally, some Christians and other moral people are silent because they are afraid. When Elijah vigorously condemned the behavior of Ahab and Jezebel, is it possible the great prophet was afraid? We have no way of knowing since the Bible does not tell us. But it would be remarkable if Elijah did not experience some fear. He knew Ahab and Jezebel hated him enough to kill him. But regardless of any fear he may have had, he did not hesitate to reveal to them God's word. And what about the prophet John the Baptist? He told Herod that he had no right to have his brother Philip's wife (Mt. 14:3-4). His uncompromising preaching cost John his life.
I make no claims for having always preached what I should have preached and the way I should have preached it. I know I have made many blunders. For that I have sought forgiveness. But I have worked to prepare myself to preach what I honestly believe I should preach. I strive to preach the whole counsel of God because I know God demands it. I also know that churches are not going to be faithful if they do not know and obey the truth. I take seriously Paul's admonition to Timothy: "Preach the word" (2 Tim. 4:2). I want to go to heaven when I die and I want to take you with me.

Introduction Many Christians in the U. Our Structure The citizens of the United States elect the president, vice-president, and all the members of Congress. When we place these leaders in office, we expect the executive and legislative branches to set civil and social policies for our nation. Also, these leaders take a stand on a range of moral issues such as abortion, same-sex “marriage,” euthanasia, assisted suicide, and so forth.
Whether we like it or not, the decisions of these leaders directly impact the moral direction of our nation. Therefore, the people’s vote (or failure to vote) ultimately determines our nation’s civil, social, and moral direction.
Furthermore, the president appoints each member of the federal judiciary, who is then confirmed by the Senate. These judges are expected to interpret laws and make legal decisions that affect the entire nation. Therefore, the citizen’s role in each election also sets the tone for the judicial branch of government. Each person’s voice (or silence) directly impacts every level of government.
The people’s role in selecting their leaders is neither an accident nor the product of societal evolution. Over two hundred years ago the framers of our constitution set out to design a governmental system that would be “of the people, for the people and by the people.” As they labored for months, they were driven by recent and bitter memories of the Revolutionary War. Each bore vivid mental images of friends and family members who sacrificed dearly to secure freedom from tyranny. Therefore, the constitutional authors sought to establish a system that would provide the citizens a voice in government and protect this newborn nation from future threats of tyranny.
These governmental architects rejected the model of a pure “democracy,” in which each individual has an actual vote on virtually every issue in the government. Instead, they opted for a “constitutional republic,” in which the government would operate through elected representatives. Under this model, each citizen would be represented in government by individuals specifically chosen and placed into office by the citizens. Our founding fathers deliberately placed the responsibility of appointing leaders upon the shoulders of each citizen.
Thus, a new government was born. Because the American system is a representative form of government, there is an obvious relationship between an elected leader’s actions and the citizens who elected the leader. While the people themselves do not govern directly (as is the case in a democracy), their representatives are the primary decision makers in matters of public policy.
In legal terms, our elected leaders are “agents” of the American people who act as “principals.” Furthermore, it is well established in law that the actions of agents legally bind their principals. A principal is held liable and accountable for the actions of his or her agent, even if the principal were not directly involved in the action. Therefore, we as citizens are liable for the decisions of our elected representative leaders, even if we are not directly involved in their activities.
If we do not agree with the direction of our elected leaders, we are free to replace those leaders through the electoral process. If leadership does not change, it is safe to assume that the leaders’ actions accurately reflect the desires and priorities of the majority of the people. If we do not vote to change leaders, we send a message to our leaders—as well as to our nation, to our world, and to God - that we support the views and policies of existing leaders. As a nation, we the citizens have the corporate freedom and responsibility to choose our leaders, so we are corporately responsible for their civil, social, and moral leadership.
The people had a voice in the selection of their leaders. If a leader was irresponsible, unjust, or immoral, the people could only blame themselves for allowing this person to continue in such a role."
"U.S. citizens have not only a civic duty but also a spiritual responsibility to vote. After voting, we have the same obligation before God to hold elected officials accountable to His standards for government. If as individuals we make an honest effort to elect qualified leaders, and if we are faithful to call our elected leaders to reflect our moral convictions on civil matters, there is no reason to expect God to hold us individually accountable. But, when we fail in this responsibility, we not only fail our government, we fail God; and we should not be shocked at the massive national consequences of these failures, consequences that the Christian community may indeed experience because of its corresponding silence at the polls. When Christians neglect their civil duty, they need not expect deliverance from the national consequences to follow."

It is a fascinating document, and I hope you will find time to read more about it. For our purposes here, though, I want you to notice what the convention said in Article 3. Remember now...the same men who wrote our Constitution wrote these words.

The words are almost hard to believe, aren’t they? The men who wrote the Constitution actually believed that religion is essential to good government—not a hindrance to it, not a perversion of it, and not betrayal of it. Rather, they said that religion is “essential” to good government.
But that’s not all. They also said that morality is essential to good government, a concept that is almost foreign to many of our government leaders today. What’s more, they said that they thought religion was essential to the happiness of mankind.
Finally, notice that the men in Philadelphia didn’t make the above statements in general. They made these statements by way of saying that schools should be built to make sure religion, the kind of religion that builds a good society and makes people happy, should always prevail in America.
It’s really pretty simple, isn’t it? The men who designed our government made it very clear that they thought religion was essential to the success of the Republic. Was this all they said? Was this one isolated statement? Not at all.
While in Congress, John Adams wrote in a letter to his wife, 'Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand.'
In this, Adams reflected a firmly held and much loved idea of his day, one that could be heard echoing from every pulpit, classroom, and printing press in the land. In fact, the president of the convention himself, George Washington, would later write that 'of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, Religion and morality are indispensable supports.'
Significantly, the framers did not regard religion merely as a tool of government for placating the people. Instead, they believed that government, as they conceived it, could not function successfully on any foundation other than a religious one. For them, government was the external expression of the internal moral force of religious truth. James Madison expressed this popular sentiment powerfully in words attributed to a speech he made in 1778: 'We have staked the whole future of American civilization, not upon the power of government, far from it. We have staked the future...upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves, to sustain ourselves, according to the Ten Commandments of God.'
Undoubtedly, most of the members of the Constitutional Convention would have agreed with Madison and could easily have written Adams’ famous words, 'Our constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate for the government of any other'.
It is hard to understand how anyone could miss what our Founding Fathers intended. It seems beyond question."
