What a horrible way to live life and I do this now ALOT. Anyone else?? This woman Brene Brown is amazing. Talks a lot about shame and vulnerability. This may resonate with a lot of other people too.

What do you all think?

I can't imagine there are many wives of survivors or sex addicts or addicts that don't live this way. What a waste. Worrying about the other shoe dropping does nothing but rob us of the joy of today.

There was one comment I noticed on the post; "life is today."

No. We really don't live in the here and now as couples. We lay-down a lot of paved road ahead of us. Its required in today's culture. She's waiting for the road-side IED.

I think we definitely have to prepare for the future, put our ducks in a row, then live our lives.

Still IED??

terrifying.

"In extreme moments of joy, do you ever find yourself bracing for tragedy in case your happiness suddenly gets taken away from you?"

i don't even know how not to do this.

"we try to beat vulnerability to the punch."

so true in my case.

"practicing gratitude to beat the fear of joy."

it works.

good video.
thanks for posting it.

amazing coincidence.
not even an hour ago, my pastor was here having tea with me and we were discussing exactly "attitude of gratitude".

She was on Oprah's super soul Sunday. It was really amazing. I am so glad you liked it.

I think I have always struggled with this and fear but it was magnified by 100 times when I found out I was married to a survivor/ sex addict and the extremes of his behavior.

I am also the queen of :

If this happens, I will do this.
This could happen and I will do this.
And on and on and on. Ruminating, obsessiong and worrying sometimes feel like a hobby to me. I really have to work hard at not doing it.

Lucy,

Thanks for the link!
Great points. It seems like being Thankful puts us in the present... not the past (agony) or future (dread).
Kind of like George Bailey at the end of the movie
"It's a Wonderful Life".

You are an encouragement to me (and I am sure many others too) and a great help to your husband.

Thanks!
