Hey guys,

I haven't been posting much, but I'm here. I saw this happen on BuzzFeed and thought I would post it. I think it shows that we are being effective in mainstreaming our issue and breaking down the taboo and wall of silence that has made recovery more difficult than it needs to be.

First, a week ago, BuzzFeed posted the following story: 27 Survivors of Sex Abuse Holding Posters of Quotes from their Abusers. Despite the lack of gender identifier in the headline, all of these are women:

http://www.buzzfeed.com/regajha/27-survivors-of-sexual-assault-quoting-the-people-who-attack

Then, yesterday, BuzzFeed ran this story: 27 Male Survivors of Sexual Assault Quoting their Attackers:

http://www.buzzfeed.com/spenceralthouse/male-survivors-of-sexual-assault-quoting-the-people-who-a

What this probably means is that after BuzzFeed ran the first story, it was slammed by emails from men like us saying, What about us? And BuzzFeed responded.

There's more good news floating out there too. I might post some more soon.

Thanks cr

I think I could come up with some ugly quotes from pufferfish stories. Are they still taking submissions?

very triggering for me.
too much abuse all at once.
it sounds all to familiar.
hard to handle.

Sorry, Victor.

I added a trigger warning to the subject line. I should have warned you in advance.

By and large they are utterly normal-looking, except for those who are actually quite handsome. You really do never know.

Thank you so much for sharing this.

no apologies necessary.
viewer beware i always say.
no harm done.
it was just the familiarity of the phrases that threw me.
they have been roosting and rattling around in my head for decades and i dared not give them voice.
seeing those words laid out there like that was a bit of a shock.
whenever something cuts through my defenses it gives me reason to reflect, which is something i value.
so thank you for the challenge.

Mine would read:
"Want to get high?"

trigger warning:

mine would say

Quote:
"i'll show you what we do to punks like you in the joint."

Quote:
"are you still a virgin? don't f*$@ing lie to me."

Quote:
"i've killed guys before, and i'll kill you.
it's nothing to me."
hand on throat

and my personal favourite
(it actually makes me laugh [no joke] because it is so ridiculous coming from his mouth [he was serious])

Quote:
"get some clothes on. don't be so indecent. cover yourself up."

The original blog is mostly women. I wonder if that's just the submissions they happen to get or if there is a certain amount of picking and choosing which ones go up. Regardless of why, that's why I am glad for places like MS. Even on the rare occasions when men are welcomed, being in a group with (even well-intentioned) women can make it that much harder to convince themselves they are still men. The reasons why are a mix of psychology and a society that equates sex with power hierarchies, but regardless of why its still true that it complicates things. And while I am glad that the blog exists because of the healing it achieves, I'm afraid that the overwhelming focus on men being the abusers and women being the abused unintentionally continues to further certain myths.
