Well for drug users I imagine that many continue to use even after they test positive for HIV. That likely plays a role in life expectancy.
As for men who have sex with men vs. men in general...I don't know. Maybe men who have sex with men tend to live healthier? Something's up if the life expectancy for men is 53.4 but for men who have sex with men it's 69.3. My hunch is lifestyle factors. As for whites (56.9) vs. nonwhites (48.4), access to care may be a factor. If I'm not mistaken, the majority of AIDS cases in the South are black. Access to care is apparently a major problem in parts of the South.
I think Worlds AIDS Day is in December, but this is still great news.
