is this reality???

am i the only person that sees an imbalance of power between a middle-aged corrections officer and a child inmate.

this will never stand up to scrutiny.

it makes me wonder:
1. why is a male officer in charge of a female child?
2. how many times is this happening and not being reported?

here is another similar thread.

I am pissed.
I am offended.
As a former child victim of sexual assault and oral rape, I find this story incredulous.

... as a man who has intelligence and emotions, this is totally unacceptable.

... it is HORRIFYING to hear comments from a government official charged with protecting the children they are confining (I assume jailed) to say the child is responsible for her own RAPE.

...what are we as a nation?

I guess we could send an email to the writer of this article
http://www.salon.com/2013/08/07/louisian...ctions_officer/
kmcdonough@salon.com expressing our opinion.

or we could send an email to the writer of this article

john@tri-parishtimes.com

but, ultimately, we could directly contact the actual parish which is making this outrageous "blame the victim" claim.

Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government

Juvenile Detention Dept.

Director: Jason Hutchinson, M.Ed.
jhutchinson@tpcg.org
Terrebonne Parish President Michel H. Claudet
mhclaudet@tpcg.org

here is a complete list of parish administration
http://tpcg.org/view.php?f=main&p=phone

as survivors, we could give them some factual information.

i am composing my letter to Terrebonne Parish right now.
i will 'CC' my email to the local media.

Unfortunately it seems that some legal systems have lack of basics tools for children's protection. It is disgrace to modern society and human rights:

"The United States has signed the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, but is one of three UN members not to have ratified it (other non-ratifying members being Somalia and South Sudan)"

I can't tell you how truly despicable this parish is. At this point I wish the state of Louisiana had been allowed to secede. In two ways, this 14 year old girl lacked the legal ability to consent to sex, by age and by incarceration. If I am on the jury, I weigh the arguments and decide to triple punitive damages because making such an argument shows how culpable they really are. Seriously, for them to make this argument shows the morally bankrupt attitude that lead to the situation and further shows that they are not even willing to change, much less have.
