When an RCMP constable is sworn in, he or she takes a three part oath:
Oath of Allegiance: "Do you solemnly swear that you will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, Queen of Canada, her heirs and successors according to the law, so help you God?"
Oath of Office: "Do you solemnly swear that you will faithfully, diligently and impartially execute and perform the duties required of you as a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and will well and truly obey and perform all lawful orders and instructions that you receive, without fear, favor or affection of or towards any person, so help you God?"
Oath of Secrecy: "Do you solemnly swear that you will keep absolutely secret all knowledge and information of which you may become possessed through your position with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police; that you will not, without due authority in that behalf, discuss with members of the Force, or any other person, either by word or by letter, any matter which may come to your notice through your employment with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, so help you God?"
To each of these questions, the response is: "I do so swear."

the rcmp used to be so respected in canada and worldwide. there are more than just a few bad apples in this box.
when i was a kid growing up in canada, we used to look up to the rcmp. they were polite, respectful and dignified. these days, i usually encounter hostility, suspicion and intimidation. even during so-called routine roadblocks. and i do NOT have a criminal record. the last traffic violation i received was 7 years ago. i am squeaky clean and yet i still get ill treatment from thugs, punks, and bullies in uniforms. many of them are half my age.
now that i am a tax paying, hard working, house owning, child raising citizen, i believe i deserve some civilized treatment. sometimes i meet some good ones, usually older cops, but not many, not like they once were.
it is sad. and now all this bad press. it seems that all our institutions are letting us down. i wish we could count on people in groups to do the right thing, but organizations seem to hide and even promote bad behavior. they are no better than mobs and crowds.
oh well. sorry to vent my disappointment and frustration, but... after all... I AM CANADIAN.
I am sure that this happens in many organised policing and well-respected bodies throughout the world. Look how much respect clergy and organisations such as the Vatican received and still do receive from others?
http://www.apmlawyers.com/saint-john-kenneth-estabrooks-class-action.html A proposed class action against the City of Saint John and the Saint John Police Force alleges the City and the Police Force are liable for sexual abuse that continued over several decades. The claim will allege that the officer was caught and confessed but the City and the Police Force covered up his sexual abuse and moved him to other duties within the City of Saint John.
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/new-brunsw...finds-1.1873116 A private investigator, hired by the City of Saint John to look into complaints about the accused, said the former officer was an abuser of devastating proportion, affecting generations. The total number of victims could climb as high as 263, he said. "K------ E------ could be most prolific serial sexual abuser in Canadian history."
http://globalnews.ca/news/871295/a-citys...estigators-say/ After decades of secrecy, private investigators and Saint John, N.B. officials say that a lone police officer was behind a massive child abuse scandal that targeted vulnerable children for at least 25 years. Some victims say they told police and social workers what was happening, but they looked the other way. A toll free number has been set up for victims wanting to receive counseling paid for by the city of Saint John.
http://www.gnb.ca/cnb/news/ps/1999e1507so.htm The New Brunswick Police Commission has completed an investigation into the handling of matters relating to former Saint John Police Officer K----- E------ by members of that police force. The Police Commission has determined that the complaints received by it in this matter were unfounded and that no further action is warranted. After reviewing the Discipline Committee's Report, the Police Commission is satisfied that the administration of the Saint John Police Force did not consciously attempt to cover-up any evidence in the investigation.
documentary: http://globalnews.ca/video/868739/full-story-a-citys-shame A city’s shame: Reliving childhood sexual abuse Global News spent more than six months gathering the names of more than 40 probable victims. The official investigation began in 2012 when one person came forward and told police his story.
this story is scary, sickening, shocking, shameful, sad, and scandalous. another sacred symbol is stained, sullied, soiled and spoiled. sending my sincere sympathy and spiritual support to the survivors.
RCMP's motto is "Maintiens le Droit" (French for "Defending the Law") i salute the people, politicians, police, and press who pushed, and probed, and poked this into the public eye. my kudos to those who chose to disclose and expose this lie.
