I wrote this poem years ago about my children as they were graduating high school,I just came across it. It kinda reminds me of the way things should have been. lets hope we can always make it that way for our kids
Where are you now thou child of mine? who
once in innocence came to me. Midst
turbulent times and trepidation strong.
Oh gift! Oh treasure! Oh burden glorious to
Bear! And yet as dust of gold though held
more tightly yet still falls away.
Where are you now thou child of youth?
Whose curious ways bring glory to the day.
In each endeavor new lessons learned and
each in faithful way carries you farther
along your way.
You are yet mine though no more child
though softly trying still your ways .pray
turn for guidance oft to me and yet to He
much greater, who brought you first to me.
Towards thee I roll, thou all-destroying but unconquering whale; to the last I grapple with thee; from hell's heart I stab at thee; for hate's sake I spit my last breath at thee. let me then tow to pieces, while still chasing thee, thou damned whale! Thus, I give up the spear!"
