Today I met one of my heroes: Don Coscarelli. Don was the creator of Phantasm, which featured one of the coolest horror villains ever: the Tall Man. (Tall Man Angus Scrimm was scheduled to appear but had to cancel for health reasons.) I saw Phantasm when I was 12 and it scared the crap out of me. Still one of my favorite horror movies ever.
I purchased a Phantasm shirt from a vendor.
I also got several autographs from Don. He signed a rare copy of the Phantasm soundtrack.
Don also signed a copy of the Phantasm DVD.
And he signed a Phantasm poster.
He is a wonderful guy. Really sweet and took his time talking to me and discussing his work. I was very starstruck and tongue-tied. I nearly wept after I left his table. For once I felt like a regular guy. For a rare moment I forgot I was a survivor. Talking with Don, I felt like I was 12 again and was reminded that there were some good things that happened when I was a kid.
Don was kind enough to pose for some photos. Here are a few.
I just wanted to hand him my stuff to sign but he stopped to shake my hand and spent a lot longer than I expected talking with me. One of the best moments of my life.
