1) If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2) If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3) If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. 4) Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5) It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6) Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7) It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8) Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9) For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10) But when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11) When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12) For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. 13) And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
VV- this is more important to me than any philosophical, theological discussion I could involve myself in. Topical discussion sway me neither to the right nor the left. But LOVE... It is non-threatening and beautiful...and I needed so much to read it tonight. Thank you, my friend.
For now we see through a glass, darkly.
1 John 4:7-21 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us. By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is so also are we in this world. There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. We love because he first loved us. If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. And this commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother.

i want to share some practical advice about love i received from yeshua (aka jesus).
"You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect." Matthew 5:43-48 (words attributed to Jesus)
well, there you have it. mission: impossible. high standards, to be sure. perfection is difficult to ponder, let alone perform.
but it is written, clearly.
this passage from the sermon on the mount is one of the reasons i chose to reject Christianity as ridiculous and weak. i did not agree with this philosophy of peace for most of my life, because it did not approve my precious desires for power over other people. i did not see the divine logic behind this simple truth.
it is victory over fear!

The power of love is a curious thing Make a one man weep, make another man sing Change a hawk to a little white dove More than a feeling that's the power of love
Tougher than diamonds, rich like cream Stronger and harder than a bad girl's dream Make a bad one good make a wrong one right Power of love that keeps you home at night
Chorus 1 : You don't need money, don't take fame Don't need no credit card to ride this train It's strong and it's sudden and it's cruel sometimes But it might just save your life That's the power of love That's the power of love
First time you feel it, it might make you sad Next time you feel it it might make you mad But you'll be glad baby when you've found That's the power makes the world go'round
Chorus 2 : And it don't take money, don't take fame Don't need no credit card to ride this train It's strong and it's sudden it can be cruel sometimes But it might just save your life
They say that all in love is fair Yeah, but you don't care But you know what to do When it gets hold of you And with a little help from above You feel the power of love You feel the power of love Can you feel it ? Hmmm
Chorus 3 : It don't take money and it don't take fame Don't need no credit card to ride this train Tougher than diamonds and stronger than steel You won't feel nothin' till you feel You feel the power, just the power of love That's the power, that's the power of love You feel the power of love You feel the power of love Feel the power of love
Place me as a seal upon your heart, As a seal upon your arm, For LOVE is as strong as death, And exclusive devotion is as unyielding as the Grave. Its flames are a blazing fire, the flame of JAH. Surging waters cannot extinguish LOVE, Nor can rivers wash it away. If a man would offer all the wealth of his house for LOVE, It would be utterly despised.
Owe no one anything except to LOVE one another, for he who LOVES another has fulfilled the law. For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not bear false witness,” “You shall not covet,” and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall LOVE your neighbor as yourself.” LOVE does no harm to a neighbor; therefore LOVE is the fulfillment of the law.
Dear friends, let us LOVE one another, for LOVE comes from God. Everyone who LOVES has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not LOVE does not know God, because God is LOVE. This is how God showed his LOVE among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is LOVE: not that we LOVED God, but that he LOVED us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so LOVED us, we also ought to LOVE one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we LOVE one another, God lives in us and his LOVE is made complete in us.
This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God. And so we know and rely on the LOVE God has for us.
God is LOVE. Whoever lives in LOVE lives in God, and God in them. This is how LOVE is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. There is no fear in LOVE. But perfect LOVE drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in LOVE.
We LOVE because he first LOVED us. Whoever claims to LOVE God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not LOVE their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot LOVE God, whom they have not seen. And he has given us this command: Anyone who LOVES God must also LOVE their brother and sister.
