****Triggering- like really Triggering****
A male on male, adult rape scene came on screen as I was half watching the movie "Beauty" through Netflix. I was caught by total surprise. Total violence by a supposed older friend who stalked a younger man, befriended him. Just triggered everything. When will this silent nightmare end? When will it become just another bad memory ?

man, i am sorry to hear that you went through that.

male/male rape is so absent from mainstream media, and I'd be as shocked as anyone if a scene of it just showed up in a movie I was watching, out of nowhere. That would be very triggering.

I wish I could do something to make it end, but please know that you are not alone and that people do care.

i had never seen that movie. I decided to watch it (just the scene) to get a feel how bad we were talking. and...

WOW
so basically the creepy dad rapes as i understand it, his daughters bf that he has the hots for or something. wont give a blow by blow. and didnt watch the movie so i wont judge the movie based on one scene. but i ffwded thru to the end... it didnt seem there was even a consequence or kick back for raping him to the dad. fucked up

hmm i think there wasnt a consequence. but it showed him at the end a frumpy dude who was cruising twinks and that was sort of his lot in life. implying hes a zero and thats all he will be.

Holy shit should I ever have not watched this. Or at the very least, not heard the noises. What a nightmare.

In an awful way I wish more people had seen / would see it, if only to announce to them that this does happen and is real. They make movies that seriously address real problems that effect far fewer people than ASA (The Elephant Man, Mask, The Boy in the Plastic Bubble, Silkwood... probably Boys Don't Cry...)

I get the feeling that both this movie and Mysterious Skin have been categorized as porn and/or gay movies, since they never, ever appear on the major cable channels. And I don't get why. Maybe people don't know where to put the stories, see "men having sex," and file it as niche so you have to go to unannounced, self-guided resources like Netflix.

exactly, soccerstar.
when I mention mysterious skin to people, the ones who have heard of it think it is a gay movie and are attracted or repulsed by that. I have met only one person other than my self that has seen the movie.

I the same vein, I felt pretty surprised by "The Perks of Being a Wallflower". I didn't realize the story was going there even though I'd had a few early instinctive twinges of "there is something really wrong here".
