Interesting question. There is no cure if there is no "disease" I would say.
Maybe some work on empathy and getting sense for others could bring some positive change in long run and improve hugely life for people around such person.
Why do you ask GS?

There are no cures for narcissistic personality disorder. Therapy, group therapy and some medications are treatment options used for this diagnosis.

If one does not want to explore these treatments, then, in my opinion, one can start becoming more involved in conversations with people. Active listening instead of conversing are good techniques to engage people. Volunteering, religious activities, spending time with loved ones are also good outlets to engage people, as well as feeling more connected with society.

Glad you posted Goldstone. Bodyguard has a good handle on it, imo. fwiw, you may have already read the wiki on this:

I'm not clear if it's you or someone else with whom you're concerned. Having been raised by a woman with NPD - who ultimately created a situation in which I was perfect fodder for my high school guidance counselor perp - I'll be glad to compare notes any time.

This is all fascinating. I was aware of the disorder, but was not actually asking about that specific thing.

I think part of PTSD is that we are so vigilant about maintaining our inner calm...defending ourselves against stress...and for some, managing appearances.

It makes us totally self preoccupied. And makes us fear the kind of lifestyle that might make us more loving and involved human beings...a lifestyle that can do much to turn us into the adults we need to be in order to manage our disorders responsibly.

Thanks for weighing in you guys!
